Really not a good week lifting wise, I think two early starts at the weekend, sleeping badly all week and starting to ride to work have taken it out of me a bit. But, a week is not a long time really, I'm going to eat and sleep all weekend and make up for it Monday onwards.

Strict Press
40kg x 5
50kg x 5
57.5kg x 6

Squats
110kg x 3 sets of 4 - I wanted sets of 5 but my legs just didn't have much in them.

Fat gripz pullups +10kg x 5,5,5,5,3

Dips +25kg x 8,7,5,3

DOH SLDLs
60kg x 5
100kg x 5
132.kg x 4 - my grip failed me

SLDLs
132.5kg x 5,5

BB Curls
40kg x 8,8,5

I have no idea how it is physically possible to do that. What do you think your limit is at this bodyweight and what do you think the limit might be for you at any bodyweight?

Still feel knackered after the weekend and cycling in every day.

DLs
60kg x 5,5

100kg x 5
140kg x 3
160kg x 1
180kg x 1
195kg x 1
205kg x 1 - PB
210kg x 1 - PB

Although PBs, these were pretty s**t pulls.

Bent over rows
60kg x 10
80kg x 10
90kg x 10
95kg x 10,10,7

Bench
60kg x 5
70kg x 5
80kg x 5
90kg x 4
80kg x 5

Unsurprisingly, my shoulder now hurts!

Tough Guy was the coldest, most painful experience of my life.

The actual running bit was fine, being forced underwater freezing muddy water and then having to run for a bit more before getting into more freezing muddy water was where it started to hurt. Several hundred people got hypothermia and I can understand why, I couldn't feel anything in my entire body after some bits. I could definitely feel the electric cattle prods in the pitch black underground tunnels though.

If you asked me afterwards if I'd do it again, I'd have said not a chance. Now I'm warm it doesn't seem so bad, might even get tempted next year.

It messed up my training badly today though. I should've rested but instead I went to the gym:

BTNPP
40kg x 5
50kg x 5
60kg x 5
70kg x 1
80kg x 1
85kg x 1
90kg x f,f - my legs had nothing to offer, I just couldn't get any speed up

Strict
50kg x 8,8,6

Fat gripz pullups x 6,6,6,6,6,6,6,5

Called it a day.

Cycling to work too now so I'll be doing 10 - 20miles a day. I might take tomorrow off and come in really fresh on Wed

f**k yes mate good luck! I look really forward to reading the blog about it!
Also, very good deading. Can't wait to see what you get on your next single.

Cheers mate.

Tonight:

10mile run
Pullups x 8,8,8,6,4 / Dips on gymnast rings x 4 x 6
5mile bike
Pullups x 8,8,6 / Dips x 6,6,6

I forgot to take gloves with me for the bike so I cut it short which was a bit annoying, I couldn't feel my fingers. I just got a new bike so I wanted to do 10 - 15 straight after the run to see how it felt.

First time I've ran for months when I haven't squatted the day before. Felt so much more comfortable!

Starting to wonder if I could deadlift 250kg by the end of year and maybe do a half marathon. I know you shouldn't train for 2 completely different aims but it seems ok at the moment. I'll see how things go...

Deadlift
60kg x 5,5
100kg x 3
140kg x 2
160kg x 2
180kg x 1
190kg x 1
200kg x 4 - PB

Smalls pulled 200kg x 2 last week (admittedly after a heavy 5) so I wanted 3 tonight. Last 2 reps were hitched slightly but I was working from a slight deficit because I used the smaller plates

DB Press
42kg x 8,8,7,6

Rows
No grip left, too much weight, lighter next week.

I'm guessing Smalls will be pulling 202.5 next time!

Training today:

Behind the neck PP:

40KG X 3
55KG X 3
65KG X 3
72.5KG X 3
80KG X 3 - PB
85KG X 2 - PB (tried for a 3rd but didn't quite get it)
90kg x 1 - PB

Front squats
102.5kg x 3,3,2

Meant to do a couple more sets than this but it just wasn't happening today. I think my previous 3rep best was 100kg so beat that anyway.

Fat gripz pullups x 5,5,5,5,5,5,4

CGBP
75kg x 8,8,8,7,6

My legs are pretty tired at the moment, this last month is the first time I've squatted or deadlifted every other day so it's taking a bit of getting used to.

This time next Sunday:

» First log, learning the basics (Go to post)21-01-2011 @ 22:15
Yesterday - 6.8miles - horrible, legs had nothing left after the triple yesterday and I got hungry half way round.

Today:

Squats
107.5kg x 3 sets of 5

Strict Press with fat gripz
bar x 5
4okg x 5
50kg x 5
55kg x 7,4

Pullups with fat gripz
6,4,4,4,4,4

Pullups + 22.5kg x 3,3

Dips +22.5kg x 6 sets of 6

SLDL
60kg x 5
100kg x 5
130kg x 3 sets of 5

I wouldn't mind working up to doing a few sets of 10 pullups with the fat gripz. The pullups were easy, the grip wasn't!

yea thats the one pal, noticed your hoping to get in it now too! Happy hope you manage to get a place, think it will be a good first comp and a great day.

Yup and trying to persuade someone at Sugden to do it too. Fingers crossed not everybody listed enters and I can get my money in before anyone else. Or I could do what smalls said and just send a cheque in right away!

Yesterday: 7.2 miles, no idea on time.

Today:

Deadlift
60kg x 5,5
100kg x 3
140kg x 3
170kg x 1
185kg x 1
195kg x 3 - PB
160kg x 5

Smalls brought up that I wasn't bringing my hips through on the 3 rep max so went down a bit on the next set for a bit of practice. It comes up fast but I have to grind it out to straighten up at the top.

DB Rows
50kg x 6 sets of 5

DB Bench
40kg x 4 x 8

Everything went smoothly tonight, really enjoying lifting at the moment. It seems running is actually helping rather than holding me back like I thought it would!

One hand dumbbell ftOH
25kg x snatch 3 per side
32kg x L,R,L,R.
37.5 x 1R
42KG X 1R PB Happy
42KG X F
42KG X 1R
42KG X 1R(Video)

Nice one on the PB! How many reps do you think you'll be getting on that monster DB? I just saw the video of it on the Yorkshire thread and it looks really difficult to handle!

If a space comes up for the novice U90s then I'd be interested in filling it!

In fact, if there's a couple, even better, I'm trying to convince somebody else to train for it too!

I didn't warm up today, I as a bit tired, grumpy and just wanted to lift something. I wish I hadn't though as my joints ache now!

Behind the neck PP
50kg x 5
60kg x 2
70kg x 2
75kg x 2
80kg x 1 (failed 2nd rep!)
82.5kg x 1 - PB
85kg x 1 - PB
87.5kg x f - I thought it would be too heavy and it was but it annoyed me because I knew the reason I failed was mental so I had another go and got a little angry...
87.5kg x 1 - PB
90kg x f - I think I can get this but I worried about failing again. If I don't explode it gets stuck just above my head and it's a bit hard to dump it. I'd planned on doing some triples but went off plan a little. I think I'll stick some lower weights next couple of weeks and some higher reps and get a bit of confidence!

Front Squats
60kg x 5
80kg x 3
100kg x 6 sets of 3

The guy I shared the squat rack with worked up to a few 2 inch deep reps with 170kg then admired his hair in the mirror.

Chins (close neutral grip) x 10,10,10,9,8

CGBP
50kg x 8
60kg x 8
72.5kg x 8,7,7,5
» First log, learning the basics (Go to post)16-01-2011 @ 18:40
Training from Friday:

Strict Press
50kg x 5
55kg x 1
62.5kg x 4, 2

Squats
105kg x 3 sets of 5

Weighted pullups +20kg x 5,5,4,3

Weights dips + 20kg x 8,8,8,7

SLDL
60kg x 5,5
90kg x 5
125kg x 3 sets of 5

Trying to get motivation to go for a run now...
