yeah dont worry about that. It is not about how much you lift, but how much you put in it Grin

well ill give it my best. s**t ill lift it until i carnt walk if it means i can get a bit more. be good to also mentally have people to work against and try to aim for one day, like yourself with the lifts.

just to ask as i said before.

should i look at a 2 day or 3 day training at other times.
maybe a upper/ lower heavy split?

thoughtas.

cheers for this guys

Like olly says doing some event training is important. Some guideline weights you would need to compete would be around SQT - 180kg DL - 220kg OH - 100kg but thats not to say you couldnt go and do some event training with lower numbers than that. Ive been using a split like this during the off season. Might be of use if you cant get to train events:

Day 1:

push press/power jerk 4x6/5x5
BB Rows 4x6/5x5

Day 2:

Deadlift 1-3x3-5
Squat 4x6/2x8

Day 3:

standing strict press/DB press 4x6/5x5
Wide grip chins 4x6/5x5

Along with a bit of grip work and cardio that sort of thing would help you get a good base to start training events with. hope that helps!

also what would you do for grip work

If youre going to be training events once a week id do something like this:

Day 1:

Deadlift 1-3x3-5
Squat 4x6/2x8
BB Rows/chins 4x6/5x5

Day 2:

push press/power jerk 4x6/5x5
strict press/db press 4x6/5x5

Day 3:

Events

When training events youre lower back gets alot of abuse so you need to listen to your body and know when to go light on your gym training days. Others may disagree but I wouldnt bother with power cleans and concentrate on your deadlift. For me, deadlift has to be priority no.1 for a strongman as it carries over to pretty much every event. As far as grip training goes itll get worked on event training days. I f youre just training in the gym do timed hangs with added weight or behind the back barbell holds.

As will ahs said listen to you body 2 t 3 gym days would be good sto start off with something like this
monday squats, shoulders, core

wednesday deadlift, upper back, core biceps. rmeber to work the whole deadlift do things like romanian, stiff leg, bounce, shrug bar, snatch grip, stuff like that when you identfy where you may have a weakness.

friday pressing, upper back, core, triceps for strongman i'm a fim beleiver in bench press and standing over headpress stricted and push press

sat vents pick three and do 3 to 4 sets on each

when i mean upper back i mean do 1 to 2 movements 6 to 8 reps. stuff like cable rows, balbell rows, shrugs, pulldowns, chins.

i will be posting my next routine today at some point. but if you just starting keep it simple

At your level id go three sessions a week in the gym and one event session on the weekends. Id take Fridays off too to allow for some recovery before the events.

I think as you get stronger you'll need to re-evaluate but I think with your numbers, more = better. Just make sure you're eating.

i thought at my early stage less would be better!!!!, ie 2 not 3 and a training day.
i do eat a fair amount on training days. main thing is i dont sleep enough and am often tired, so will need to get more sleep i reckon.
