What is the condition / what are the symptoms? Are we talking inflammation of the patellar tendon, IT band, ... ?

Stop doing (or cut down on) whatever aggravates it?

Do you run, or was it strongman event training that caused it? Big guys shouldn't run. At a mere 15 stone bodyweight even I feel too heavily built for running. Too much impact on the knees.

the condition is a tight I.T. band this is a very long and fat tendon that runs down the outside of your leg and stablises your patella as mine is tight its putting the tracking of my patella out causing it to grate on other bones. ouch.

symtoms are

1. not being able to point feet striaght when standing

2. tender spot on side of knee

3. pain when squating down

4. decreased flexability

I developed a tight IT band after dislocating my knee and being in a cast for a month...anyhow I managed to sort it out with some (very painful) massage and roller work and well as ongoing TFL stretches.

No worries. I went to a sports physio who specialised in contact sport injuries and he sorted the acute problem out in a couple of sessions

i do run a bit, this doesn't cause me any pain actually. its like the tennis elbow stuff u dont have to play tennis to get it, as many of u guys on here will no. i dont feel to heavly built, i guess cause i have always done some type of running or sport from a early age.

Lots of soft tissue work on IT band, gluteus medius, TFL, etc. A foam roller for the IT band and some kind of ball for glut. med. and TFL. Lots of stretching and mobility work. Also check the condition of tibialis posterior, as this could transfer problems upwards. Rectus femoris would also bear scrutiny; also investigate general 'quad tightness'. The IT band problems will eventually impact on your back, so it's right to address them a.s.a.p.

NB: massage of the IT band, glut. med. and TFL is NOT fun. I can honestly say that having a physio stick his elbow into my IT band for a few minutes was one of the most painful experiences of my life. Don't laugh or doubt until you've tried it...

Would agree with the Foam roller being very effective and very painful. Should sort you out though.
