Whilst benching the other day i felt some pain in the side of my chest and into my armpit, finished the training session there but must have strained something slightly. Can feel it if i try do pushups and when stretching my arm overhead or to the side but its not a severe amount of pain.

Any ideas on what this could be and some stretches etc that i could do?

I had the same feeling once, but it turned out to be an abscess. Treated with anti-biotics. Rest, Ice, a week off. If it doesn't get better, go see a Dr.

Bet that was unexpected, did you not feel a lump? Generally there is no pain unless i try do like benching or pushups and also hanging from a pullup bar stretches it and i can feel it pulling.

Im guessing its jst something minor, but wonder if other areas could be the cause e.g. tight shoulders or bicep etc.

Pec attaches or inserts (not sure which one) on the inside of the upper arm, so a pec strain can feel like bicep pain. I thought I had a pec problem as benching made it worse as soon as I started. Having said that, any movement like that would have done the same, but I don't walk around performing that movement.

I now have the same! Strain on the outside of the pec. Just resting it before a niggle turns into an injury. Been benching twice a week for 3 months or so without any respite.

I had been benching once a week and then bumped it up to twice a week, then for two weeks i did 3 times a week and all sessions where heavy the week i hurt it. Seems to be easing off now. Need to do some shoulder mobility as it feels tight on the injured side.
