I'm trying to sort my form out on the deadlift, and have come across a problem.

When I try to get as much speed off the floor, I rip the bar off the ground and it flies - however my form goes to s**t and my lockout suffers.

However, if i try to keep good form at the start and squeeze the bar off the floor at the start it's slow as f**k at the beginning but the lockout out is easy.

Here's a couple of vids to demonstrate:

s**t form, good speed:

good form, slow start:

any tips for maintaining good form at the start, and yet still having good speed off the floor?

Thanks.

The facebook one says unavailable. When you pull fast off the floor, does your back round? Rounded back at the start can make lockout harder

pull the slack out of the bar.if you go from 0-100% your form will break so pull about 50% of the weight while the bar is on the floor get tight, then explode off the floor.
hope that helps

I try to do this, but can't seem to get any speed unless I jerk it straight off the floor

try some bands, that should help build speed.

Exactly what I was going to say. Just need to take the strain, pull the bar without lifting it, then explode

Air in the belly and squeeze the abs hard and pull, I guarantee it wiLl be difficult for your back to round.

What I have found helps is taking the slack out of the bar, as others mentioned, but to do so I pull myself down into position. This puts you in a position that is ready to lift.
