Dude, how can you forget those shots of Tony, the ones that went from the top of his head to the very base of his cock? Tell me, I really want to know. I mean, I like him and all, but I don't need that in my head.

Welcome aboard man Happy.

Lol, thanks Rick!

Good to see another lemon fresh log being started. Good luck with it mate!!!!

Thanks Wigan! i shall do my best!

One thing i wanted to ask you guys is how much do you think not being able to fully lock out my right elbow will effect my training. I broke the elbow years ago throwing javelin and cannot fully straighten it. When i spoke to Tommy ages ago he said there are a few lifter who cannot fully lock out for whatever reason!

Cheers

Tom

Shouldnt hamper you at all mate, if you dont let it. Check out Juri Zacherevich on Youtube, a 210k snatcher at 110k bodyweight, he broke his elbow extremely badly and within 12 months snatched 210, so no excuses really!!!

If you end up competing as long as you bring the bad lockout to the attention of the refs before you lift it wont go against you.

Good luck with it mate, be good to see you progress!!

Thanks buddy!

Yeah i just watched him - seriously impressive!

just to give you an idea here is an ohp grip and snatch grip. Hopefully be ok!

Pff, as popular as curling in saharaTongue
I think any kind of strength/power training doesnt drain much attention in occident, on the other hand the way you look has much more importance than what you can actually do; which is, and i think we all agree here, just plain daft!

Sorry Mishima? As a one off we can tolerate you spelling the word of god wrong, but to declare a distaste for Guinness is just evil. I normally welcome new members with a pic of a skankie council estate bird, but I fear such an image will be wasted on you. We'll monitor the log to see how things pan out, but any further blastphemy will result in a hate campaign and a possible fight with Matt griff AND Tony.Wink

welcome to the 'otherside mate'

just looking at your routine is there a specific reason why you do them exercises ? seems a lot power clean, cleans, hang clean and jerk and jerks ????

personally i would choose one then go on to a couple of assistance exercises squats or pulls for example they are 'multi muscle' exercieses did you not feel very f**ked half way through

i not at all against doing any of these exercises, just makes more sense to me to do them on different days concentrating on that particular exercise

maybe doing a push press to warm up for full split jerks but nowt else

If your not gonna post a lady pic i'll just have to do so myself as it appears a journal is not complete here without -

Hey mate!

Thanks for the advice i really appreciate it. TBh i have no set routine atm, as this is all very new to me im basically going to the gym with the intention of doing 1 lift e.g jerks and then adding in other stuff once im there. Im still kinda using the 2 upper/2 lower template i used to but its not really applicable to OL as the movements are total body ones.

Also the other thing atm is that ive just got home which means no easy access to an platform. So i'll need to work around that a bit. Hopefully gonna get my ass to "fitlike" gym at some point which does have a platform!

So you'd suggest something more like this:
- full cleans
- Front squats?
- clean pulls or jerks?

The other problem is that i've not been taught to snatch to im just doing snatch accessory lifts atm until i can learn the full thing!

cheers

Tom

yes basically mate i find doing full cleans then going on too front squats is a perfect warm up

the 'other' day could be

snatch balance (some call it over head squats) similar but with a jump of the legs
snatch
snatch pulls

** what i actually was trying to say about the amount of exercises you are doing was in simple terms it seemed a lot in one day to me, it maybe fine for you not doing many sets at this stage, if you are happy and you are improving carry on, if you start getting tired or technique going bad you will then know why ?

Cool! thanks mate! i will def apply some of that.

With regards to the amount of exercises basically it was the last week of uni, my exams were done and i was in need of some big sessions as i'd not been in the gym much due to library time. Also to help with my back problems i need to do a fair bit of posterior chain work (reverse hypers, pull throughs, ghr) which help loads and make up a fair bit of the training. Saying that the OL lifts will give my posterior chain a hell of a beasting too!

I plan to try and get some sort of structure to my training asap. Dont tell littler.

** how many times weekly would you suggest going OH in terms of jerking/any sort of pressing? Would you suggest any particular structure to it e.g 3x3 or jus go with the flow as i have been?

much appreciated

Tom

i dont think it has to be massivly structured strictly, 3x3,4x2 or even some singles i would just decide before going in its a snatch routine based one day, cleans next, jerks, or clean and jerks together. dont make it too complcated

theres no reason why after doing a snatch workout you could go on to do som presses

i would always do snatch pulls after snatch just because it makes sene you are warmed up and doing front squats after cleans, unless you are f**ked you could do clean pulls, i personally tend to do deadlifts after clean pulls because again im warmed up

going on the exercises you do i would do upto 3 olympic exercises then the other general exercises like the pull throughs etc

Right got my ass to fitlike gym tonight!

Brilliant place. not much else to say than that!

Ian, the owner, helped me with my snatches as i said i'd never done any before.

SO.....

1ST EVER SNATCH BASED SESSION (hence the crap weights)

Hang snatch
barxlots
30kgxlots
40x3
40x5
40x4
42.5x4
42.5x4

4's i hear you cry! i had no choice honest!! Grin

Snatch High pulls
60x5
65x3
65x3
65x3

we set a bar up here to make sure i was getting correct height. Ian reconed that if i could quite easily high pull to this height i should be able to snatch it. Time shall tell! - they all felt light.

Snatch balances
40x1
40x2
40x3

then i did assorted cleans with jerks

good fun!

VID FOR YOU -

Nice session there Tom, moving well mate. If that is the first time you've snatched then f**kin well done mate, they weren't bad at all!!! Nice snatch balance too, i'd just add a little dip and drive to it before you drop, will help when you push the weight up a bit.

Keep it going mate, good stuff!!!

Cheers buddy!

The ones on the vid were done at the end so my speed prob was not the best.

Yeah, he suggested i dont do the little drive as it was done just for me to get used to getting my ass down and under the bar asap!

Tom

Also - i got a bit of an eye opener tonight on how unfit ive become. I was a bit puffed tbh after some of the snatches. Prob should try and rectify this somewhat.
