Rowing or kettlebell training. Ive started doing some interval rowing after each gym session and some kettlebell training on non gym days.

Seeems to be improving my fitness levels.

mostly just to lose some fat if you need to.

otherwise better keep the conditioning training as close to the events as possible, so 30-90 seconds high intensity efforts.

Ive been told that walking on a treadmill at a high gradiant is good cardio without eating into your muscles.

400m sprints and medleys are the best by all accounts i found my cardio lacking just of late so i need to hammer it too

if you base your cardio round your events.

like loading meldey's pressing medleys, moving medley's(yoke, farmers, chain drag)

also another thing that is good is Kettle bell work, as joni's says in most comps each event is over either 75 to 90 seconds so you should base your cardio around this principle, with a minute or two rest between sets or you could do a full recovery before you start again.

i find that running doesn't help me mind you i'm 150+kg in weight so no wonder. but hill sprints would also be a good addition

anything that is maximum effort for 60-90secs is spot on, 500m on the rower abou 4-5 times, 400m sprints are great also as everyone said just run medleys!
