We have a photo of the front of this edition up in the club, it will be nice to have the actual magazine to put on display, it has now been purchased and is on its way Grin

The same seller has other Strength Athletes from around this time that mention Alan, including his 2nd place in what appears to be the 1965 British Championships (Louis Martin won, of course...) lifting 122.5/120/160=402.5...the highest total from him I have seen is a 920lb total.
The magazine also mentions a Gerry Fairclough (is he Alan's brother) and a R. Scholes who is listed as lifting for Adlington.

Yes, Gerry is Alan’s brother. He was a middleweight and also a very good lifter. He still calls into the club now and again.

There is another issue from 1966 with Alan on the cover but I can't link it currently...

A lot more fun than bent rows, quiet tonight with most attendees suffering from injury. A couple of able bodied members turned up late on, but for a while I felt quite healthy.

A tortured four

I have adopted a policy of not entering a guess that cannot be correct, it is sometimes useful and informative but I feel if all three factfinders have been used, and mainly succeeded in eliminating rather than finding, it is best avoided. This was today's tactic and after fifteen minutes I managed to come up with something that I wasn't even sure was a word, but at least it fit. I was lucky and very relieved.

So much scribbling that my pencil needs resharpening.

A much more enjoyable than yesterday three

Used the third factfinder as the second today and it paid dividends.
