But I guess if you've spent the last fifteen years saying powerlifting is boring and unexciting, it's difficult to admit you might have been wrong? One swallow does not a summer make. A couple of dozen of the world's elite knocking their pipes out for wads of cash is a good way to start, but it's a far cry from saying we have been wrong for the last fifteen years. Joe and I did consider going to this but once we say the prices we stopped thinking about it in an instant. I am delighted it was a success and happy that people enjoyed it but not for me I'm afraid. Back to the boring stuff now I'll wager

It's great to see a more exciting competition format though, I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Definitely worth the ticket price rather than people expecting 5 quid to watch the best lifters in the world at a very nice venue

To be equally fair, the vast majority of football matches (Kids, Sunday League, lower leagues, etc. etc) are boring. Same with rugby, athletics, etc. But at the top level it's not. I've been privileged enough to attend a lot of international competitions over the last ten years, and some of the action has been hugely exciting and compelling. I think what has always saddened me is powerlifters 'talking down' their sport rather than be advocates for its development so we get more Sheffield style events. It's almost as if, once they've uttered the words 'powerlifting is boring' they're more interested in being proved right than in seeing the sport develop, as it has hugely in recent years.

From the 1st timer 50kg boney lifters to the neanderthal hairbacks. I don't know why. Even in a school sports hall with plastic chairs for seating. The waiting around. Awkward waiting times. Powerlifting (am I accurate?) is a lower income strength sport than Strongman and has a larger pool (I'd guess) of competition. It is so unforgiving that I'm happy to pay £5 to watch grass roots. I'd happily pay £50 for a high level ticket but certainly not more. Long live powerlifting.
