Squat Warm up - squats & good mornings 60x8+8 100x6 130x6 150x5+5+5 - 2:00min rest 7.5/10 - not sore on knee but did feel a bit tight. Plus, I could certainly tell that I'd not squatted for a few weeks Bench bar x10+10 60x8 80x6 90x6+5+5 9.5/10 80x8+8 9.5.10 2:30min rest on all 90's and these 2 sets - fairly happy with these, especially since I'd only benched a couple of days before and done similar rep range on the 90's. Still s**t though! Bent over row (overhand grip) 60x10 80x6+6+6+6+6 1:30min rest 9/10 Alternate dumbbell curls 14x10 20x6+5(6l5r) DONE | ||

Bench bar x10+10 60x8 80x6 95x4+4+3+3 2:00min rest - 9/10 80x4+4+4+4 1:30min rest - 7.5/10 - mainly to get some extra volume in, which I think is going to be key for me. Deadlift (overhand grip) 60x5 100x5 140x5 170x5+5 2:00min rest 8/10 - felt something cramping in the lower abs which made me paranoid about me giving myself a hernia so stopped there. The belt was damn uncomfortable as well. DONE - not too bad a session, hopefully I'll be back to full health in a couple of weeks. | ||

I did some clean and jerks and some isolated cleans the other day working up to a clean of 120kg and then failing a 125kg one so it wasn't anything to write home about anyway!Snatch Warm up - squat, snatch press, overhead squat, good morning, power snatch, snatch balance 40x3+4 60x3+3 70x2f3 70x3+3 - felt really tired today. Lower back was becoming loose in the bottom of the snatch and didn't feel particularly great Squat 60x5 100x5 140x5 - again, felt rubbish and my lower back felt like it wasn't activating at all. My leg drive out of the bottom was fine, just very unstable at the top of the squat. Meh Bench bar x10+10 60x8 80x7 90x5+5+5+5+5 2:00min rest - 9.75/10 - damn hard for me, however, this actually felt like a bit of a win for me as I'm not sure I'd have managed this at any point in the last few weeks. Was easy on the legs but my body didn't like them Bench bar x10+10 60x10 80x6+6+6+6+5(didn't want to risk a 6th) - 1:30min rest 8/10 felt weak on these today (even moreso than normal) Bent over row underhand grip 60x10+10 80x6+6+6+6 - 2:00min rest 8/10 At least the knee didn't bother me whilst squatting so hopefully I'll be able to get back onto a programme very soon. Hope this training hiatus hasn't screwed my chance of a lifetime PB in the coming months DONE | ||

In fact, I'm the last person there who seriously (to any degree) trains primarily for strength. Because of this, I've started weightlifting again. The free weights area is nice and quiet, especially for a January, and I've got my own bar there and there's 20kg bumpers so it'll suffice for now. The idea is to get back to around a 95kg snatch and 120kg C&J. We'll see...... | ||

One gym I train at has a lot of orange men taking selfies and training topless. Good old topless lat pulldowns. They actually charge women 30% less to be members than men. When you see the dullards who train there, and their lack of manners, you understand why. The other 2 are pretty good: Lemans Gym in Halstead has a lot of strongman gear: but crappy bars, which people constantly f**k up rack pulling. RP Fitness in Cambridge has Texas Power Bars and Racks. The only thing bad is the occasional UFC wannabe practising take downs in the warm up area. People are weird. | ||
