Wonder if anyone has any experience with antidepressants/anxiety type meds and how they affect training?

I've suffered from OCD for a long time and do get depressive/anxiety so been proscribed 50mg sertraline. Obviously mixed reviews online as to effects; hoping it doesn't sap all my energy for training though!

I was prescribed Sertraline 50mg around this time last year for anxiety and depression.

I was signed off work for a couple of months and put every last bit of energy I had into training for a competition and don't feel it hindered me in anyway.

I was on it for about 3 months which gave me just enough of a break from the physical anxiety to figure out what I needed to do which ultimately was address the underlying issues.

Infact I made a very similar post last year which might be worth a read..

Good luck mate

Thanks mate. Been doing quite a bit of reading around it - hopefully may have a good effect on the type of OCD I suffer from but will just give it a go and see how I feel. Nice to hear it didn't affect your training.

Hope you're doing better now.

Mirtazapine 30mg / daily for depression last 4 months. No noticeable effect on training. I take one before bed as it is sedating but I feel no hangover next day. One side effect is its a potent appetite stimulator which may be good or bad. Before taking them I was burnt out from overwork and in the resulting stress-out; dumped my gorgeous and kind hearted Thai girlfriend for no real reason on her part; was feeling despondent, suicidal ideation, poor appetite, sleep and training was just going through the motions.
The effects of stabilising mood, improving sleep and appetite are performance enhancing if anything compared to trying to train with depression.

Been on something for over 15yrs. Never had any issues with training as far as energy or any other issue. At the start, I had to take something to get to sleep with adjusting dosage but I haven't needed a sleep aid since the first 6 months.

Have used either citalopram or fluoxetine since 2003, only sides were in first few weeks - feeling lethargic, but no negative impact on training. SSRIs don’t tend to be harmful like that imo.
