So many variables that could be a issue towards this...

1) Training setup - Poor training protocols, too emphasis on deads, or not enough.

2) Nutritional approach... Cutting weight? Undereating?

3) Poor Recovery / Stresses

4) Poor quality insulina.

We will need a bit more info on you, your approach and situation to help buddy.

I know I don't eat enough and I have a few things going on oersonally which if could do without. Dunno what insulina is tho. Basically I need a good deadlift regime as I am just plodding along on my own at the moment, which I always have done but I seem to be going backwards now and not forwards. There's so much info online that finding something is harder than it should be. Hence I asked you guys for help

What is your current training approach?

Why is your diet crap too? Undereating is a crime.

i was same as you a year ago, got recommended by many here to get in touch with an online coach to get kickstarted (if there's no one at your gym).

You give them a load of info on your training and what you want to achieve then they design a programme for you.

Forgot all about 170, forgot about maxing out again for AT LEAST another 4 months.

Initially work between 115kg to 135kg for multiple sets of multiple medium to high reps. With the occasional foray into 140-150 territory. Every session increase your workload. Periodically deload the weight on the bar.

End these 4 months with a substantial increase on your 5RM, 8RM and 10RM.

You will do more than 170 by then.

Meh, surely not!? Grin

Get it into your head that just because you don't pull your max every week doesn't mean it will disappear. Training 1-3 reps all the time works for only very few people and even then it probably isn't optimal for their progress.

If you aren't eating properly then you won't be gaining for a start, add into the mix external factors, life stressors etc and then compound this with the hammering of your central nervous system constantly trying to hit max lifts every week and to me it seems obvious that you would be going backwards.

Get some quality calories in, lower the weight and focus on gradually increasing your volume at lower weights, even if you don't go over 130kg, if you can progress to hit 5 reps instead of 2 you will increase your max in the process.

To put it into perspective, I will be going for a 290/300kg attempt in around 8-9 weeks time but my training in that period won't see me go much over 260kg, that's 9 weeks without a max attempt and yet I still expect to be stronger by the end of it.

Also a lot of people, myself included find they get a good carryover from squatting, I'd even go as far to say focus more on squatting than deadlifting but everyone is different and you will ultimately have to figure out what works for you.

If you are really stuck then ask a coach to do it for you, yes it will cost some money but it will potentially save you a lot of time with trial and error from the mountains of conflicting bulls**t on the internet.

Just my two penn'orth Happy
