old age traveller Member 332, 8041 posts | The Great discus hope needs a hug. Maybe he will be a Powerlifter or strongman next? The womens 100m is looking super hot, I have always wanted to see a race with all under 11 seconds (10 for men) hoping tomorrow it will happen. Rai Benjamin vs Karsten Warholm should be a great match up, Rai is the son of former W.Indian fast bowler Winston but runs for USA I can see him winning a very tight race. The womens 400H should also be a splendid affair look for new WR holder Sydney Mcglaghlin to win another close one. Athing Mu could well be the star of the track this games and many more to come, Keely Hodgkinson to pick up a medal I hope.

old age traveller Member 332, 8041 posts | Jamaican Shelly Anne Fraser Pryce winner in 2008 and 2012 ran 10.63 last month to become second fastest Woman ever I would not be surprised to see her go faster in the final. The BIG Nigerian is OUT after testing positive for HGH

I wonder a bit about her race sense at times, but think she has the speed to easily offset that. Warholm/Benjamin could be very special. I’m looking forward to Hassan/Tsegay/Obiri in the 5000m. Not sure you’ll get your wish for all the women to go sub-11 in the 100, but it should be very close.

old age traveller Member 332, 8041 posts | 10.61 into a 0.6m headwind for now 2 time champ Elaine Thompson, a 2m tailwind is equal to approx 0.1 of a second so I deduce Had ET a legal 2m Tailwind and did not celebrate before the line she would of run around 10.48. I have done a bit of research into flo jo's 10.49 and it seems there is a lot of evidence to suggest the wind was at least 5m per second(But was recorded as 0) in there favour and the run should never of been a WR. Her 2nd fastest time was 10.61 the day after her 10.49 this had a tailwind of 1.2m.

old age traveller Member 332, 8041 posts | The mens 100 turned out to be far more interesting than expected, great to see an "unknown" take the win. The Chinese guy "spunked too early" leaving it in the semi. High jump was ace, Womens triple jump WR, well if only she had some Edwards esque Technique to go with her 6'3'' frame. 400H WR going to get smashed???? Male and Female

Member 174, 1454 posts | Post Edited: 02.08.2021 @ 18:54 PM by Bod Hassan is clearly taking the piss. Going for the 1500, 5000, 10,000 and looking like she’s barely working. Falls in the 1500, makes up the gap with ease, wins her heat then comes back in the evening to romp the 5000. Salazar must be watching on and crying with laughter. Really pleased that El Bakkali won the steeplechase as he’s a bit of a mentalist but seemed to run more freely without having to worry about Kipruto in the race.Special mention to the BBC for managing to show hockey on BBC1 and simultaneously on the red button whilst the medals were being decided on the track and in the women’s discus. This isn’t about ‘My sport is better than yours’ and I appreciate that there was British medal interest in the hockey, but it was inept to simulcast it and it wasn’t a rights issue either. Eurosport commentary for distance events doesn’t involve saint Paula though, so that’s always a bonus. Women’s team pursuit went off red hot, but Archibald has so much raw power that holding her wheel was too much after that start and they shipped a decent chunk of time in the final km.

old age traveller Member 332, 8041 posts | Great for a British Lady to win a medal, I have not seen any lifting I guess it is not on the bbc anywhere? Hassan was supreme today, surely she will do the unthinkable treble now! I was surprised none of the others "took it on" and made it tougher for Hassan. I always feel BBC coverage gives too much air time to the "experts" talking bo***cks instead of getting on and showing some athletics it seems they think if there is no British interest its not worth showing. Will they be showing the 400H at 4.20am? I might check before setting my alarm.

what is everyone's fran time? Member 3986, 10452 posts SQ 340, BP 200, DL 400940.0 kgs @ 129kgs Eq | Flo Jo's 100m WR is widely regarded as being suspect. Flags show massive gusts of winds whereas the wind meter read 0.0. Seems like she just got very fortunate and got away with it. Great to see women getting down to 10.6 and hopefully below again though

old age traveller Member 332, 8041 posts | Wowser the 400H and the women 800 did not disappoint!!! The women 200m was also pretty special. Karsten was beamon esque That record for me is the greatest thing I have witnessed on a track 9.58 was close 18.29 closer but 45.94 takes it. A cynical side of me was wondering if the track was a meter or 2 short!! I was aware of the "era of the super shoe'' But now we also have the SUPERTRACK which is helping with the faster times I guess back in the 80s before super shoes and super tracks they did not have OCT so kinda evens things up.
