Thinking about buying a proper powerlifting bar and was looking at purchasing a Texas Power Bar. Looking on Strength shop though and they seem to be doing an offer on the Okie Bars. Anyone had any experiences of using these 2 bars and which do you prefer? All comments welcome.

From what I've heard the TPB's aren't great mate. They are a mid priced budget bar in the states but just cost a lot to get over here, hence the £400 price tag. I think they're around $300 which is only £180 over there. They're not great and bend easily I'm told by a reliable source!

The Okie ones are Rickey Dale Crain (Crains) and they're supposed to be decent but again are only $280 over there (£175) and £350 here!

Strengthshop's own power bar is supposed to be very good and has a massive tensile strength comparable to Eleiko power bars. These are very good for the money (£350) and often come up on offer at £250-£270 as they were 2 weeks ago and 3 weeks before that.

I've been researching power bars for a while and am yet to decide which one I want! At the moment I've got the Strengthshop olympic bar - https://www.strengthshop.co.uk/bars/olympic-weightlifting-bar.html - which is very nice and managed to get it for £99 as slight second!!

I got the Strengthshop perpetual weightlifting bar and I'm very happy with it.

Walker - it's called shipping and TAX! Course they are more expensive here Happy

European bars are cheaper bought from America too. Doesn't make them any worse though.

I have an Okie Power bar (and squat bar and deadlift bar) and I like them all. They have all seen 350-400kg plus on them in training!

Tpb are great. Pretty much as good for price as your gona get. Never heard of anyone saying they bend easily, until now, and have used loads that are a respectable age.

Dont have as much experince with okie.

Both bars are a good shout for the price..in the UK

I'm not convinced about the TPB. I've only used one, but the shaft behaves much more like a weightlifting bar than a power bar. But with sharper knurling. And closer rings. And stiffer sleeves.

But it bends a lot!

We've got a few TPBs at our gym and none of them bend at all really, and the bar is very stiff (rotationally I mean). Love squatting and benching with them. The super sharp knurling can rip your shins up when deadlifting if not careful though. Don't ever do any sort of shoulder press/push press with them, the centre knurling destroys your throat. Overall I think they're great, never had any experience with the Okie though unfortunately.

Cheers for that lads. We ended up getting an Okie for £329 which was on offer at SS. There does seem to be some differing opinions about the TPB though. There will be no bar bending with the weights i use though so that wont be a problem! Thanks for that lads.

I disagree it bends alot. Its not as flexy as a weightlifting bar. It is more flexy than a top end powerlifting bar though.

Powerlifting. My fav are eleiko bars. Feels great on all lifts. Great tight, fine knurling, which isn't too deep.

TPB is a great bar for the money, very nice bar to bench with

I don't rate the strength shop bars very much, the knurling isn't very good

Never used an okie bar but have wanted to try one for a while

I have one of the new Strength Shop Powerlifting bars -the knurling is sharp on that -enough so that front squats last week cut the s**t out of my throat and shoulders through a t-shirt. Never tried their cheaper ones so can't comment on them. Overall I'm very pleased with the power bar -very stiff and better value I decided than the Texas or Okie in the UK which is why I bought it.

interesting, my gym recently got 2 strength shop power bars, and i found the knurling on both of them to be poor
