I actually never use straps as I felt they cut into my wrists. Now I know better.

I think it's one of those things a lot of people don't really consider, just strap up and go. I think it's entirely worth taking the time to get it right though.

Im hoping most of the 'wrong' ways to strap up were purely hypothetical and not something youve actually seen people do?

Strapping up with a kink in the strap for example is just plain unholy and anyone who thinks that acceptable behaviour for intelligent lifeforms should be put down.

Never realised there was so much to it!

Gerrit Badenhorst lifted with a mixed grip with straps in the final of WSM 1996, pulling 410kg. As a very experienced powerlifter he was obviously most comfortable with the mixed grip.

The most common strap use error I see, is people wrapping them the in the same direction as their fingers... They seem very frustrated when the straps make almost no difference to their grip
