Get some wraps or some knee sleeves. Also make sure you are foam rolling and stretching and stuff.

Don't think about the fact that wraps add kg's to your lifts, think of them as an aid to stop your knees falling apart, if that helps you get over the few kg that they add (unless super tight).

a pair of titan or rehband or even strengthshop neoprene sleeves will keep the joint warm and don't offer much in terms of rebound, just support.

also try cod liver oil, since i've taken that i've never had joint pain full stop.

Lifting without any supports doesn't build connective tissue, ligaments etc more than with a pair of knee sleeves would. For those purposes you want high rep, bodybuilding style movements. Lift without supports because you don't need them, rather than because you don't want to for some other purpose.
Remember to foam roll, hit the mobility and flexibility work and plan your training sensibly before you go down the "this hurts, I'm injured/overtrained/need wraps/need drugs" route that a lot of people jump to. Also look into how you are actually lifting. Are you divebombing your squats and wondering why your knees are taking a battering? Would you be better off with a slower tempo eccentric movement with more focus on the concentric part of the movement being fast?

the yellow and black strength shop sleeves are pretty good mate, i cant even do a warm up set without them, my knees are pretty battered... i know its nice to get raw lifting out, but listen to your body, i dont do anything raw due to old injuries and besides, in most comp they allow wraps, belts, sleeves etc so why not train the same as comps... also have you tried ibrufen b4 you train, i take 800mg b4 and it helps alot with my lifts...
RHutson said:I've been starting to experience a bit of knee pain recently. I've been squatting more regularly and have been trying to keep my lifting completely raw as to build up the joints, tendons and connective tissue aswell. However I think my body is telling me that I need a bit of extra support! Can anyone recommend a good knee support and where to get one? Not bothered about wraps that help you squat more, just want to keep squatting with less pain!

The strengthshop Thor kneesleeves are great. They make you feel a bit more secure and they eliminate all knee pain and they don't add much to your squat, 5kg at an absolute push. Having said that, I've recently switched to rehbands since I can use those in comp and I'm really liking them, and just got a huge squat PR in them Happy.

Thanks Jordan, I actually picked up some rehbands from the expo today. They feel great on, looking forward to squatting in them
