it may add value yeah... at yorkshires when they had the top 5 do the stone run for max distance.... it had a real "penalty shootout" feel to it

milsy said:i would love to see a static strong man comp

max log
max dead
max stone
max squat
max rolling thunder

but thats just me

maybe decent to compete in....dog s**t to watch

I love max log/dead, but they can be pretty boring spectator events

max rolling thunder would be horrendously boring IMO

Personally I think the best comp have a similar formula:-

Max Event (Log or DL or Squat)
Repping Event (One of the above...not the one used for max)
Stones
Carry event for 20m for speed (Yoke/Farmers etc)
Medley (incorporating any one of barrels, farmers, yoke, drags, fingers, tyre etc)
Truck Pull or Arm-arm

I like odd events. Bar bending, uphill loading medley, large man squat for reps (my idea)

I agree with this, good to watch, tests a number of strengths, plus speed and mobility, best format for a comp IMO

I think that the general public much prefer dynamic events to static ones, and ones in which the weights are real world objects; e.g. bench pressing motorbikes, deadlifting cars, overheads with safes, etc. (to give some expamples I've seen).

A max static strength comp would be too similar to powerlifting.

Good balance there.

If people want to do it, then why not? Competitors dont tend to sign up for comps that they dont think will be fun/rewarding to do.

I advertised the Dumfries novice comp and within 4 days had 18 lads confirmed so must have done something right with the events..Personally i'm not a fan of static events as a spectator..

i personally feel entertaining events are best! head to heads are a must! i would personally always set up a comp with 1 third static 2 thirds moving. i hate pressing medleys that comp down to time rather than power, same with deadlift at wsm which was just about doing it quick. i do think some promotors are ott with the weights, they need to be heavy enough to challenge but not too heavy where loads of guys get the same reps
