i have never really bothered with direct bicep work until recently, (starting to train with phil and his 6 pack) i was wondering what you guys do for biceps

also alot of strongmen tend to f**k up there biceps, kevin nee recently did his, oli thompson, and im sure there have been numerous others, so i wanted to strengthen them as much as i can really, dont fancy a ripped bicep

I just do heavy hammer curls mate. Sometimes I'll do ez bar aswell but not often.

What did you have in mind?

I agree with the way Derek Poundstone trains: he trains all body parts including bis therefore the is no weak link that is likely to go. ie. torn bicep etc

not to mention they are the most essential muscle whilst at the beach.

My gunz plan is s**t, but here it is: i find curls boring so i just do 3 random exercises, usually just one set each in the end of a session on a random day. i too prioritise hammer curls over normal ones, and especially the Jouko Ahola curls Cool

Not very much at all, two or three sets of curls every other week or so. Your biceps are relatively tiny and will be worked enough from all your back work. Very little extra is needed.

Bye the bye, anyone who refers to their biceps as "guns" or worse still "gunz" takes it up the arse with no lubrication other than spit.

I have issues with my elbows from squatting with a narrow grip and shirt/board work and I find hammer curls to be effective. I don't do them as much as I should though, same as face pulls, stretching etc.

Ive been trying to get the girlfriend to call hers gunz for ages....

I agree that bicep work is probably worth doing to stop 'weak links' etc. But, when people pull their biceps, dont they tend to rip the tendon rather than the muscle? Also, I suspect and have indeed seen vids of people who later pulled bicep tendons deadlifting with slightly bent arms. Deadlifting with bent arms = dumb. Ive also not heard of anyone pulling a bicep pulling double overhand. Ive no doubt it happens but I bet its not as common as the over/under combo, therefore why not hook?

Im with the Fat One. Lots of hard and heavy back work and the biceps will take care of themselves. If you're a strongman of have elbow problems chuck in hammer curls. If you want bigger biceps chuck in some curls. Pretty simple really.

I only ever indirectly train my biceps with primary back exercises. Bent over rows, seated machine single arm rows and the one arm rows with heavy poundages.

Personally I think the over developed arms of bodybuilders are not aesthetically pleasing and ruin the proportion of the torso. Biceps are important don't get me wrong - but I think too much emphasis is placed on them by so many novices, its a shame really.

Happy New Year to you all - 900 will fall in the BPC Welsh April....PP
