I was talking about people I've seen lift several times before, and I've seen them close to their limit and know what they lift like. I agree that some people make their max look relatively easy. I also agree with you about big jumps. My point was more about tactics and pushing for a title on a third lift.

Take the 130/140/150 example I gave. My opener principle is to open on what you can triple if you're a new lifter, and what you can double if you're more experienced. If in doubt, go with the triple. Now if you can do a comfortable-looking 150 and have done 160 in comps in the past, you MUST be doing more than a triple with 130 in the gym. So by opening 130, you're just wasting a lift. I would have gone 140/150/160. If I missed the 160, I would be no worse off place-wise. If I made the 160, I'd be British champion. My question was why pass up the chance of the British title when it was there for the taking? You plan your first two lifts, but your last lift should be about fighting for titles and podium places.

Imo there's too much emphasis on 3 out of 3. All that matters is your best good lift.

Just my take on things - no disrespect to the person being used as an example, who may have had sound reasons for lifting as he did.

If any one knows Andy Bonner please ask him to stay at 90k - I don't want competition in the 82's

Bugger of! Enjoy the 82's Andy Tongue
