With 418kg though?

of course not but that was not my point. regardless of weight I find it a strange place for the skin to tear, I dont think my hands barely even make contact with the bar in that area.

yes I guess everyone is different and hand sizing/proportions will effect where your hand makes contact with the bar.

Ive got calluses there from hook gripping and thats only cleans and snatches, if i deadlifted heavy hook grip then I could see them tearing.

oh right I see, must just be me, the weight does usually sit quite low in my hands.

not just you mate, my skin is as smooth as a baby's bum there! I was a bit surprised it tore as well. More to the point though, why the f**k would anyone want to hook grip that much weight. It's fine for a fast lift but not for a lift which takes a few seconds. I did a 235kg hook grip deadlift once, my thumb was like a bloody pancake afterwards!

I did a few hook grib deadlifts and made a pretty mess of my thumbs. My callouses are pretty horrendous though... not sure if filing them or cutting them is the best idea?

I use hook grip for heavy pulls. If you do it enough it stops hurting. Torn the skin off my thumbs a couple of times in the past but taping them prevents that. Although you risk the tape ripping or slipping off if you don't apply it properly.
