In all seriousness the guys I know that made their best "newbie" gains and progressed fastest are the guys that squatted a lot, good form being of high importance too. I wish I did the same myself BACK IN THE DAY, now I'm still playing catchup. And deadlift is easy "cheat" without any real form or strength building going on, again another lesson learned late.

im sure they wont. and, if strongman is really something you want to do id go and have a go now. most equipment is plate loaded so beginners can use it. nothing like having a go at some of the events to get a bit of motivation to get stronger!

Just that a lot of guys get up to 160-200 deadlift with bulls**t technique, and not so much focus on the squat, so their squat lags and they are not as strong overall, whereas if the squat goes up, for most beginners the deadlift will go up anyway.

That's a bit harsh Boar,

I find all you need to do is take a good 98% off whatever he is pontificating about and you will usually find a liitle bit of relevant nonsense.

my general advice would be- lift what you can when you can, as heavy as possible stay around or under 5 reps per set. if you start feeling low and worn out take more rest days. try and practice events like axle press at least ever other week if you turn up to a comp thinking because you can lift with a normal bar you can axle press you will be shocked
