I wasn't quite at my best on some events on the day but my yoke run (my strongest event) tipped me over the finishing line. It is my final novice comp too. Opens awaits! Was a great weekend highlight for me was shane jerman amazing strength at such a light bodyweight. Pleasure to watch Also brilliant seeing tristen (south africas strongest man) compete and my ol mate harri from finland... Excellent performance think harri had bit of a unlucky day with some events. And cliff the other mad south african doing his first novice then having a go at the opens the next day lol. And of course well done to ben winning the open and to all the 105 athletes who qualified for the uk strongest man final. Well done to all athletes Rest well to all

The legendary Discus Ben Member 1550, 476 posts | Another great comp down in Gravesend, Marc, Sean, Martin VOS Cee and co. all contributed to another successful weekend. Thanks to each and everyone of you! Really pleased to win another EMPM title, my day couldn't have gone much better. I've got videos of all my events which i'll stick in my journal along with a brief write up later on. I really enjoyed my battle with Tristan O'Brien (South Africa's strongest man) who traveled along way to compete. We were separated by a single rep or a few seconds all afternoon (luckily it kept going in my favor)! A quick mention for Shane as well, I managed to catch the last 4 events of the 105's. I was not in the least bit surprised to see him win, the 105's events were reasonably light (in my opinion, I'm sure others would disagree!) and ideal for someone with as much all round athletic ability as Shane.

Thanks to each and everyone of you! fully agree with that, very well run comp! and well done Ben and Shane. as for me, I have had a couple of pm's asking what went wrong, simple the stone carry. first time I have done one of these and I didn't wrap my arms up, hence when I picked it up it felt like the mrs was standing on my biceps in her high heels, took about 10 step and though f' this. dead last...never going to recover from that. that said, not taking anything away from Shane or Chris both very consistent over all the events. Shane expected but if I am honest I was very impressed by Chris, he has clearly worked on his weak points and come good, "well done mate" I would agree with ben, in that some of the events were a bit light, the arm over arm for example, there was about 6 guys on 20 point something seconds, so 6 places could be split over how fast a thumb presses the stop button?? but as I say the comp was run excellently, so small matter, and no big injuries!! always a big plus for everyone involved. all the best to all involved and look forward to seeing you at the UK's. The u105's was a brilliant comp to compete in and he opens a pleasure to watch! With winning 4/8 events in the u105kg's and finishing fourth I far surpassed what I had thought! Great comp and always a pleasure to compete against some great guys! Weaknesses to work on and strengths to get better! Thanks again for a great comp!

Finlands Strongest Man u105 Member 891, 1935 posts SQ 280, BP 200, DL 362842.0 kgs @ 108kgs UnEq | 9.6.13 Englands most powerful man comp 1. Loglift 140kg reps from floor: 2Reps PR I was a pretty nervous before comp starts so i went to near park doing my own jogging and strecthing warm up to get my brains back to fight mode. Anyway first few reps with 60kg bar, it felt good then empty 82,5kg log it felt good. After that i did 92,5kg, 110kg and 130kg and those felt like they shoud be, so i thought maybe double could be a word of the day 2. Yoke 20m/400kg on grass: about 25s ish Before start i tested 280kg empty yoke and it felt pretty ok. Anyway I knew that 400kg is quite heavy for me, so start with slow and steady steps, i got 20m line without any drops and i was happy with that. Time was pretty s**t but and my back felt ruined... 3. Deadlift reps with 300kg: total 6reps So as i wrote my back felt ruined thats why thought i should did good light reps before 300kg. I did 5*2-3*180 and that felt quite well but it didnt felt so good that i could not think 8-10 reps with comp weigh. So i got 6reps, basically it goes well secretly hoping 8reps but not this time... 4. Farmers 20m/152kg: +30s farms model was good and the handels felt good, though they were pretty thick. I assumed still have change access to the finish line without dropping, even two iprevious did not get to the finish line. Start with good steps but in 15m mark grip betrayd me, deep breath and new grip and againg towards finnish line...Fook about 1m before line my i loose my grip again, so again new breath and grip and then over the finish line. 5. 80kg dumbell reps: total 2reps PR Warm up didnt promising anything good because i didnt get any reps, i thought now i need help from upstrairs wrist wrap tight and the weight of the shoulder, a good fast breath and pushing yeah there it goes, then a small rest and the same again and again it hoes there. I tried to still the third repetition, but it was too much... 6. Loading 110kg sack, 130kg aluminum barrell and 160kg log: I got first two object, log was too much with out belt for me... Overall 4th place!!! I had a wonderfull three days in Kent and i really enjoy to be in there All rides to the venue, the evening of dinners and from airport and back goes as they should be!!! It was great to feel important and welcome, and it was great to meet new strongman warriors!!! Many respectfully thanks to Martin VOS Cee, Marc Cherry, Sean Kennedy, Tristen O'Brien and Clifford Bessling you guys really made my weekend!!!

Member 2338, 210 posts SQ 227.5, BP 150, DL 260637.5 kgs @ 106kgs UnEq | i know this event has been completed but one question i would like to ask is what weight can a 'novice' be. for example myself i would like to give it a go one day (never competed) but currently weigh around 100kg and think the 105s is currently a little heavy even though i reckon i could get a few lifts etc

So you could be up against bigger or smaller people. End of the day though bodyweight doesn't indicate much, look at shane winning the 105s at 85kg ish? and Ben winning the opens at somewhere around 110kg
