Mate if youve placed pretty high in a good open comp like yorkshires then you're not a novice! Anyway winning a noice really doesn't mean much and you'll look abit silly if you pull 300 in a novice comp
Bigworm1986
Ino I am strong buddy but wats the problem me wanting t get the title ov yorkshires strongest novice wen I'm strong and a novice I need more experience my head wernt in last Saturdays comp I couldnt focus or would av done better but that's down to experience I guess plus they may b Sumone stronger in it than me

140 log and 4 comps does not equate to being at novice level though. What were the other comps adn where did you place?

PS. I am sure nobody is doubting you have put the effort in.

I'm new to the sport and to me the 1st year is ur novice year I've won give me strength comp in June my first comp it was inters I think my second comp was rotherhams strongest man I came 2nd that was on Father's Day inters/opens I think my 3rd comp was stokes strongest man I think I came 1st novice my 4th was yorkshires last sat there is people doing the comp who bin doing strongman years and have trophies but cus I'm strong I get a lot ov b**ching
Avatarunit94
The different conditions I've heard for novice are
1. 3 comps or less
2. Never placed top 3 in a comp
3. Never won a comp.
4. Don't have 300 pull and other similarly high numbers.

Well, I can't speak for other but I am not b**ching - I am jut saying I don't think you should compete in another novice competetion. Based on the results you have listed it is clear you are not at novice level. I take your point about your novice year but its generally accepted that once you have won or even placed in a comp' you are no longer a novice.

There's a lot of different opinions of novice i was strong cuming into this sport and want the rite to win trophies for my achievements from the bottom up novice inters opens and I compete in all of these but it's still my first year no matter how strong I am I've not had the experience of a lot of events

I think sometimes in can be less clear but they are reasonable guidelines. I will use myself as an example and if I recall corretly, I placed 7th, 13th and then 1st in a novice comp'... I had about a year of dedicated strongman training under my belt but only a 240kg deadlift and 90kg log (or thereabouts) whereas the chap who came 2nd had a 300kg squat and deadlift but no event training experience so it was a very close and fair contest. For me it was obvious that having won that comp' I would not enter another novice contest.

But surely you can see that you would be competing at level beneath you having already won and placed in novice/intermediate comps?

You say you have the right to win trophies - when it is at a level beneath your capabilities this is usually referred to as glory hunting.

At the end of the day it is up to the event organiser... personally I wouldn't have people in that have placed top three previously unless, for example, the comp' they placed in only had six or so people in it or there was some other specific reason.

Neil asked for an opinion, I have given mine so will leave it there for Neil to decide (good luck Neil! Grin ).
Bigworm1986
Ofcorse I see them being weaker a lot who ov compeated against have loads mo experience but it not my fault they not putting the effort in t b strong but this is yorkshires novice not sum gym strongman event the novices in this should b the best in Yorkshire I don't no wat they lift I have 4 months experience in comps and not fone 1 year in the sport surely I can enter novice comps and do sum glory hunting
Avatarsparks
I agree with all of them except no 1 i think thats for first timers
Usually organisers descretion iv seen some guys allowed in but only if they placed badly
Costy
Come on. Is that not glory hunting! It's obvious your going to win if your pushing numbers out like that! What would be the point! Give someone else a chance. It's not testing yourself that mate!
Bigworm1986
Well I appreciate all comments just wanted to understand more about strongman and the novice activity as I am new iv only done one novice comp by the way and inters and opens all my others that's it for comps for me this year then time to get bigger and stronger over the winter in time for next years comps
