The inclusion of the deficit is causing a nice trained feeling in my shoulders Happy

I was an OK strict presser at one stage, but I moved away from overhead pressing in the recent past because I didn't like the stress on my spine and wanted to really look after my body. I had been doing mostly front raises. The thing I like about HSPUs is the absence of spinal stress. Maybe I can get some of my former shoulder strength back.

I seen a video of a couple of monks doing free standing handstand press-ups today. They did about 10 without the aid of a wall.

Here's a video of my 16 away from the wall. Goal is to get to 20, when I started I thought 10 was pushing my luck as a goal.

Can you do it the other way for the beginner - i.e. stack up cushions and increase the ROM over time?

dannyboy73's answer works, but people also do the stack of cushions thing (or plates, or typically "abmats" in crossfit gyms). You can also do pike push-ups with your feet on a bench/box, to get both the standard ROM and a vertical-ish path but with less weight in hand.
Hand width is another way to play around with ROM.

It's an option if the economy crashes I suppose, although I have the flexibility of the tin man so I'd have some hard work ahead Wink

Probably do some more this evening.

If the plates become detached from my belt I could end up with a broken nose Eek

I can walk on my hands, but don't think I could balance in one spot. I have no ambitions to come away from the wall. It's a shoulder exercise for me.

Considering I live in a 15th century house - and I'm 6'7": pike might be the way to go!!

I'm now having the added weight behind me (attach to belt and then rotate belt) because the weight in front of me was pulling me away from the wall.

I thought I'd inform Sugden of this adaptation Happy
