Kettlebells RULE !!! Member 3699, 407 posts | Nice session. I thought everyone at UP was PICP? Looks and sounds like a class place to train, I'm jealous. Were you doing the sled work in the gym?

It is a useful certification to have, but having it doesn't make you a Poliquin 'disciple'. The fitness industry seems to be the only industry where CPD is likened to some kind of religion. No-one drinks the kool-aid at UP, that's one of the reasons why I like it. A very intelligent bunch of trainers. We are actually developing our own courses under the UP Education banner led by Phil Learney (if you don't know him, check him out), but that won't make us Learney disciples either!

Kettlebells RULE !!! Member 3699, 407 posts | Cool, I may try to get a look in the gym some time. It's good to hear that as I agree, it's an odd industry. I meant no offence, most people I know who are PICP or similar (think CHEK or GIFT) do become over-zealous and then closed minded. I like the idea of being open minded to a full range of ideas and forming opinions from there, and evolving those as you go too. Any other strength competitors there?

pointing the way Member 1298, 631 posts SQ 110, BP 65, DL 130305.0 kgs @ 63kgs UnEq | Mon 18 June- strongman Push press 35x3 40x3 45x3 50x3 55x1 current PB 60x1 F 60x1 F - pity about that, would've liked to get the PB. More work to do! Farmers Walk: I think our farmers are 15kg each, so on that assumption: 55kg 30m (15m out and back) 55kg 30m 65kg 30m (with a few stops!) Conditioning: Sled sprints with 20kg - 30 sec sprint, 30 sec rest x 5

pointing the way Member 1298, 631 posts SQ 110, BP 65, DL 130305.0 kgs @ 63kgs UnEq | Tues 19 June - weightlifting Hang snatch doubles 75-80% 45kg 45kg 45kg 47kg 47kg 48kg 48kg Snatch pull 110% x5 (66kg) 100% x5 (60kg) 105% x5 (63kg) 100% x5 (60kg) Up till now, haven't had a training plan; have just been going with the flow and getting through all the events. However, now need a plan to make sure I'm hitting all the events on a regular basis and working the weak points. I've also signed up for a strongman-style comp at end of July called Bigger Stronger Faster. It's being organised by a functional training gym so I assume it will be lighter and higher volume than ESW, and with more medley/conditioning stuff in it. So need to get my fitness up!

pointing the way Member 1298, 631 posts SQ 110, BP 65, DL 130305.0 kgs @ 63kgs UnEq | Got in trouble at work for damaging the track with my farmers from the other day (I dropped the heaviest one a couple of times). So will have to find somewhere else to train events! Rest day today - mmmm lovely!

Just gave out towards the end when I failed 75kg clean (not failed clean before but usually fail jerk).

pointing the way Member 1298, 631 posts SQ 110, BP 65, DL 130305.0 kgs @ 63kgs UnEq | A quick update as I haven't posted for a few days. Sadly, England's Strongest Woman has been postponed until next spring. However I have another strongman event to train for at the end of July called Bigger Stronger Faster down in Sussex. This is much lighter, more high rep stuff but I'm not going to take it lightly! High reps not really my forte. These are the women's events: Log Clean and Press 75s - 35kg Farmers Walk for distance (with a turn) - 40kg each hand Deadlift for max reps - 80kg Trap Bar Truck Pull 30 metres for time - Nissan Navara Surprise Event...You will love it :-) Undiscloed Medley Event - This will test who is the fastest and strongest.... In the meantime I have had a fun weekend. Yesterday we had a competition at Bethnal Green (taking part in an international email comp) and I put up 55 snatch and 70 C&J which is a solid total for me, though no PBs. Today I did a parkour class down in Vauxhall. Brilliant fun, hands are now ripped to s**t!!

Kettlebells RULE !!! Member 3699, 407 posts | You get up to some cool stuff. Good lifts in the Oly comp. What was the parkour class like and who ran it? I trained a guy a while back who was into it and taught it and he was fearless.

pointing the way Member 1298, 631 posts SQ 110, BP 65, DL 130305.0 kgs @ 63kgs UnEq | @Ed: gotta work on my endurance! @AKBC: I did a class with Parkour Generations. They were very good - it was more challenging than I expected for a beginners' class. We were walking on railings, climbing walls, scaffolding, learning how to vault etc.
