I hit a pb today with a chest infection
Member 3283, 1921 posts
Just been told at the hospital I have 2 f**ked discs and there's f**kall they can do. That it's basically arthritis.
Has anyone had any experience with this and found a way to manage it and still be able to deadlift/compete?
Can't face the thought of not doing it ever again

Not 100% sure but looking at a diagram compared to my MRI image I think it's L4 & L5

Dissclaimer prefix: I am not a doctor, in fact I am actually a massive spastic. Take from that what you will.

From my experience degenerative disc what have you is actually not as bad as what doctors say. "You will never lift again and are doomed to a life of going to swiss ball pilates classes and there wont even be any fitties there it will just be old people".

My L5 S1 is "f**ked", perhaps in a similar way to yours. When it was diagnosed I made a thread about how it was "crushed" because I misinterpreted what the medical professionals said. Somewhere down the line she or I exaggerated the f**k out of it. It basically is dessicated or "slightly worn" like yours may or may not be.

For me the solution was to improve the f**k out of my general skeletal health in the form of improving posture, movement patterns, lifting technique and strength of andominal muscles and stuff.

The disc will never actually un-desiccate and it really is an ongoing process but the fact is that I got an all.time squat pb 2 days ago and MOST of the time my back feels fine.

I would recommend taking a look at some of chris duffins videos, particularly his hip warm up ones. Also stretch your hip flexors properly at least once a day.

Thanks for the reply jack.

I saw on the MRI image all the other discs been bright in colour because they're full of fluid and the two in question were black and have no fluid in them, they are also bulging.
I'm in a lot of pain every day, some days better than others obviously.
I'll look into those videos, thanks.
Great stuff on the squat pb, there's hope yet then

Yeah thats how mine looked only not actually buldging.

I am actually in pieces after said squat PB. It was a reminder that I need to keep technique good and not grind out reps.

Yeh definitely where it makes it worse on those reps lol. But always lose a bit of technique on maxing lol

I have same issue with same disks. I have been unable to deadlift at all for 2 yrs. Squats are fine. No bent over rows etc. I have found that yoga has helped pain management. I also take Ostarine.
