There are weak 15 year olds as fast as me.

Ha ha don't sell yourself short, not in this country there's not.

I could discuss the complexities of sprinting mechanics for hrs, but probably on a different stage.

It looks like ace fun to me. More fun than sprinting anywayTongue

It is ace fun, competed for GB from 2008-2002, 4 of the best years of my sporting life. What not to love, Travel the world, to pretty cool places, if there's a bobsleigh track it was probably an Olympic venue at some point, San Moritz, Calgary, Vancouver, Saltlake City, Torino, now Sochi amongst others around Europe, and Japan.
unless your armed forces most people x-over from others sports that they have already developed the skill sets required. GB got a pretty good squad at the moment , just missed a medal last year, would be a good time to get involved for those with the right toolbox.

Lol, this is what i think. Alot of the squad are ex track runners.
I've been told i should try out loads of times with my slj, 30m time etc. I think most change sports looking for funding, but I'm not looking for that. I just like to compete and train at my own pace.

Dazza, you must tell more!

What were your best placings? How strong, quick and heavy were you at that time?
What are the skill sets required? Explosive start?

best in a race I was in was a 5th place in a Europa cup race in La Plagne in France, best World Cup race was 12th in San Moritz.with GB2, GB 1 had a few top 5 places most yrs in World Cup races which was important as it helped secure us lottery funding for the following year. But way off the bronze medal GB1 got in Nagano in 1998
I got involved after a recruitment drive they had after the Nagano games tail end of 1998, where most of those brake men had retired.

I was weighing about 96-97 kg, squatting 250 max, benching 185 max, power cleaning 140 at the time, 3.72 for the 30 but that's was with a 1/2 mtr start before your hand broke the beam.
From memory The pre requisites they looked for at the time for World Cup consideration was a 3.8 30m, min 120 power clean, + 3 m standing long jump, they also looked at vertical jumps.
At the end of the day these were all just guides, and would hopefully get you invited out to ice camp in Lillehammer, Norway, but there's no simulator for sprinting on ice with ice spikes behind a sled off the top of a hill, and then having the ability to load quickly and smoothly with 2 or 4 guys.
If you go on the GB Bobsleigh web site they have something on there about current selection criteria.
There was a lot of x top class athletes when I was around who on paper should have been exceptional but never made the transition, John Regis springs to mind.
Don't know if Joe Fearon still competing, this yr but he ran 10.10 in 2013 and I think he ran 10.26 last yr.

Not sure where the team is now in terms of technology , but 12-15 yrs ago we were always playing catchup with the likes of the Swiss, Germans and Americans , in both sled development ( Aerodynamics etc) and runner R&Wink which on race day all made a massive.difference
Great times and great memories,

Good stuff. Very strong, especially on the bench. So what do you do now?

Ha ha thanks,

I still train and still compete to the best of my ability, in both track and field which was my first love, also did a couple of powerlifting comps last yr with the GBPF.

This popped up on my face book today,
