First session back from holidays and i've decided to change my routine for 4 weeks, i'm aiming for a comp at the end of sept' so am following somolov jnr squat routine for 4 weeks, squatting every other day.

Didn't do too much because lower back was well worked and could really feel it.
It was my first try at 18" deadlift and 250kg felt really tough but i need to do 280kg in the comp so really need to target this.

sorry i havent replied to your question but what i meant was doing 2 days per week on the deadlift only up to your comp but after thinking about that just work on your 18" doing triples doubles at 250 260 270 and save the 280 for the comp or you could work up to the 280 on the short time you have remeber you can hitch in strongman so if it gets it up into the locked posistion then use it

Neil,
When you mentioned following a russian squat routine i thought you meant hammer the squats and that would bring on the deadlift. But after reading the above i see you meant following the russian squat routine but for the deadlift.
Would i be better off training DL twice a week (1 18" session and 1 full session) and squatting twice a week.
I was planning on training every other day up to the comp and squatting every session, with 18" DL every 3rd session.

If I were you train the deadlift as you said over two sessions then do your other Events that you have to do, so the more practice in those events then thebetter you will be at them IMO I used this to a good effect

Mon 30th Aug

Deadlift
60 x 6
100 x 5
140 x 4
180 x 3
220 x 3
220 x 3
220 x 3

Strict Press
60 x 6
80 x 4
90 x 3
90 x 3

Axle Clean & Press
50 x 6 (press only)
80 x 3
100 x f
100 x f
100 x f
100 x 1
100 x f
100 x 2
100 x 2

B O Rows
100 x 6
110 x 5
110 x 5

God those axle C&P's were a bas***d to get right, first time i've really tried the continental clean so it took me a few attempts to get the technique right, but i got there in the end. I don't know why but i love battling with an axle, every reps a wrestle and when i get it in the air, it gives me a sense of triumph, more so than any other bit of kit.

Yes they are, there's a pressing medley which includes a 105kg apollons axle and a 110 landrover wheels axle. So hopefully hit 105kg next week and 110kg the week after. Fingers crossed.

Wed Sept' 1st

Speed Squats
60 x 8 (deep)
90 x 6
Working sets to a box
120 x 3
130 x 3
135 x 3
135 x 3
135 x 3

Bench Press
60 x 8
90 x 4
110 x 2
120 x 2
120 x 2
120 x 2

GHR
4 x 12

BB Curls
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5

Weighted sit-ups
15kg 3 x 25

1k run

Bit unsure about the speed squats never done them before so didn't know what weight/set/rep range to use and only used a box when looking on you tube and seeing that all the ones on there were down to a box.
Weight didn't feel too bad nut unsure about the wether to do more sets of lower reps or visa versa?
