Cheers Neil. Not exactly ok, but not as bad as I feared, which is nice...

Today's training Part 1 - Speed Bench

Bar for 20, then small blue band on and
40 for 8
60 for 5
80 for 3
100 for 3 x 10 sets.

100 felt a bit heavy, but each set seemed to be faster than the one before.

Shoulder grumbling a bit, but nothing more than that. I've held off buying my tickets for Luxembourg. Time to buy them now, I think.

Today's Training Part 2 - at the Sports Centre

A strange evening. My planned training partner got a gash on his finger so couldn't train with me.

Lat Pulldowns
45 for 10
55 for 10
65 for 10 x 5 sets

Shoulder Press
35 for 10
50 for 10
65 (bottom peg) for 8 x 3 sets

Facepulls
35 for 10 x 5 sets (too light, do 40 next time)

Ab Machine
50 for 10 x 5 sets

Arm Curls
30 for 10 x 3 sets.

Was on my way into the sauna when a lad came frantically chasing after me saying it was ladies only. Might be a good idea to put a notice on the door then! Anyway, no gash on my finger. Then went to Tesco, only to find it closed early tonight. One of those nights...

Cardio

Cross Trainer - 1 km in 14.46. Target was sub 15 minutes. I know it's doing me good, but it's just so f**king boring! Tried the ab machine but my abs wouldn't work after yesterday's sets.

Spent an hour after that flitting between the spa, sauna and steam, so came home clean and relaxed. Bench tomorrow, going to try for a slingshot pb. Currently 185...

Bench. Pinkie Grip to protect shoulder.

Bar for 20
50 for 10
70 for 8
90 for 5
110 for 3
130 for 2
150 for 1.

Slingshot, normal grip

170 for 1 - horrible, but powered it up
180 for 1 - much better
190 - fail, buried me!

Slingshot off, still normal grip

160 for 1 - struggle
150 for 2 - piss easy
140 for 4 - last one was hard.

Back to pinkie grip

130 for 6 - bust a gut on the last one
120 for 8 - piece of piss.

Shoulder still grumbling but no worse. Had hoped for a slingshot pb today but the 190 completely buried me. Trouble is it bends double as I lower the bar, I touch below it and I don't get the pop I should. Still, 190 at arms length with no shirt is not to be sniffed at I suppose. Beautiful day here today. Nice to walk out between sets and take in a few lungfuls of clean, bracing Hebridean air Happy

Lent my scales to Tom for a couple of weeks, now got them back. Weight this morning 106.7! Crept up 3 kilos in the last couple of weeks. Woops!

Bench

Wanted to do an equipped session today, but had only Jonathan for company and as he's pretty new didn't want to give him the responsibility of handing me 200+, so...

Bar for 20
50 for 10
70 for 8
90 for 5
110 for 3
130 for 2
150 for 1
160 for 1 (easy)
150 for 3 (easy, at least one more rep there)
140 for 5 (NOT easy)
130 for 7 (easy)
120 for 10 (easy)

Not a bad session all in all, BUT I caught my little finger on the rack as I put the 120 back. Throbbing a bit, but nothing broken. Shoulder seems okish. All the warm ups up to an including 130 done pinkie grip, everything after that normal grip.

Bench at Steve's with Steve and Tom.

Didn't feel up for it today and nearly made my excuses and passed. I've been painting for the last day and a half, don't know if it's the fumes, a cold coming on, or me just not fuelling up enough. Anyway, forced myself to go and

70 for 8 x 2 sets
90 for 5
110 for 3
130 for 2
150 for 1
160 for 1
170 - fail

To 5.25 inch board

170 for 1
180 - fail

To a touch

150 for 2.

Left it there. Better than nothing. I suppose an easy 160 feeling like this is not to be sniffed at. Didn't plan on trying a 170, but the other two lads had a go... My weak point is so clearly off the chest. A little touch with the 170 and it flew! Annoying. Maybe heavy dumbells is the way forward? After Luxembourg...

Tom's pretty much overtaken me now (good coachingWink ) and Steve's catching up fast, so I'm about to go from Scotland's best bencher to the third best bencher in the Outer Hebrides. What a fall from grace!! Tongue

Didn't work too hard today, want to leave enough in reserve for another session on Monday before I fly out Tuesday.

Bar for 20
40 for 10
60 for 8
80 for 5
100 for 3
120 for 2 - hard and creaky Unhappy
140 for 1 - bit of a grind Unhappy

Competition Rage X on and

160 for 3 - 3 board - easy
180 for 2 - 2 board - easy
200 for 1 - 1 board - not easy, but it was never not going up.

Left it there. Might even do a bit of back and arms in the sports centre later. On Monday I try a touch with 195, and that's it. Sadly my custom made SK still hasn't arrived, but if it gets here by Tuesday it's coming with me...

Saturday Training Part 2

Cross Trainer - 1.2 Km in 17.29
Lat Pulldowns - 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 for 10 each
Facepulls - 40 for 10 x 5 sets
Ab Machine - 50 for 20 x 5 sets.

Left it there, had a steam and sauna to finish. Resisted the temptation to do arms, want them fresh for Monday. No speed work tomorrow, rest up and then more shirt work Monday.

Just checked the final nominations for Luxembourg. Based on best lifts this year, one guy is 10 Kg ahead of anyone else, but the next six (including me) are all within a 10 Kg band. I'm not a favourite, but maybe an outside chance of a medal if all goes well?...
