Gordy said:Two weeks ago I hit 200kg for a set of six, my 5RM was 190 like a month and a half ago so I was pretty excited by my recent progress.

Took a week off for studying/exams, and so far tonight I've managed to lift 180kg for a single and I seem to have somehow welded the bar to the platform in the process. It won't budge an inch now.

Does anyone know what is going on?

ebbs and flows. You can't presume a strength gain or loss in 1 or 2 sessions. It's all about the average of 1) gym lifts and 2) comp lifts.

Can't get an average after a single session. Maybe it was something good that happened on the 'good' day (sleep, diet, mental excitement, adrenaline...). More data needed to spot trend

First thing to note is don't sweat it as you haven't actually lost the strength (probably lost nothing or next to it).

My thoughts would be you are f**ked from all the studying/exams and your CNS isn't working. Remember the body follows the mind, if the mind is taxed that can end up meaning things just don't fire. Stress of the exams could also be a factor.

Squatting isn't doing my back any good.

You also mentioned that you hit a PB of some sort a couple of weeks ago. Couldn’t it be that you have just reached the end of your gaining cycle and need to start a new build-up?

Yeh this makes sense thinking about it. Feel completely and utterly wiped out today despite not really doing anything that merits this level of exhaustion.
What's your thoughts on what to do from here? I'm leaning towards just lifting as much as my body will allow for a week and then restarting the mesocycle next week.

No definitely don't lift as much as your body will allow, you need to rest your CNS. Lifting as much as your body can will stress your CNS regardless of if you are getting PB's or not. Best thing would be just to do an easy week or two of working higher reps / bodybuilding style training that's not to failure not doing the powerlifts then come back into them light and build up.

You might have hit a good peak there and then gotten pretty worn out through your exams etc.
You might even have something working on you like a bug that you're unaware of.

Well done on the progress though thats ace. Hope the strength finds its way back quickly.

Like AMH and savage have said don't worry , if you where ramping up it likily your cns has just got to be ramped up again , sometimes I do rack pulls for a couple of weeks, also for me even a session off can throw me off my groove, im guessing the studying and stress has probably taken its toll.
