Im running with this programme for the foreseeable future, just coming of the back of ten months chemo and this seemed the perfect programme to go for, must admit its hard knowing what i could lift, and what im capable of know.

Started of with just the bar on all lifts, except pull ups and dips

Anyone else run this training routine to good effect?

this is also the first time ive focused on more powerlifting work, rather than Bodybuilding splits.

Alan.

I ran the program for a good 6 months
The 1st time I put a foot in the gym I started doing rip's starting strength program

My technique in all lifts was somehow okay and I polished it over time with the help of another forum, and after few months in the program I moved to a powerlifting friendly gym that helped with polishing my technique

Started with these weights
squat 50kg
bench 30kg
deadlift 60kg
BW 78

Finished with
Squat 152.5 3X5
Bench 85 3X5
Deadlift 155 1X5
BW 89kg

I ran the program for about 2 years (because of injuries and stupid s**t like that)
Sqaut went from 20-170
bench was always horrible 20-70~
Deadlift 60-170

B.W 55 18%- 70 16%

as long as you will eat like a man and keep your form as good as possible and won't do dumb things you will grow and get strong.

Good luck !

Well im an experienced lifter, but changing to powerlifting is alien to me if im honest

But it seems to be ideal to stand me in good stead moving forward.

Ive got to take baby steps with it if im honest But im hopeful I'll get to lift some credible numbers again in time

THIS f**kING GUY!If every beginner did this instead of f**king about trying to find the perfect programme there would a hell of alot of strong lifters. Well done, great progress.

I made some great progress off starting strength and wished i had moved on to madcows and advanced 5x5. Keep thinking of going back to advanced 5x5 but not sure it would be effective at thi stage. Progress slowed alot after stopping starting strength.

I have the book and it makes a lot of sense for new lifters. Not so sure I'm not a little too experienced for it now though.

I got the book as pure reading material whilst i was away from training.

So seeing as i was starting from scratch it looked ideal for me.

Lots of guys have gone back to basics with SS and had good results. His practical Programming book for the next step is also a good read.
