NOTE THE DATE CHANGE FROM ORIGINAL. This competition will now be held on Sunday, 19th June at Burns Gym in Dumfries. This is the first competition in a long while in that area and we hope you support it and make the journey down to compete or watch. There are plenty of strongmen in the area and I'm looking forward to some tremendous lifting. We're running all age categories and both equipped and unequipped categories, so something for everybody. A very big thank you to Stuart Murray and Burns Gym for hosting.

* Weigh in: 9:00-10:30
* Lifting starts: 11:00
* Venue: Burns Gym, Elizafield, The Racks, Collin, Dumfries, DG1 4PU
* Entry fee is £15

I know a few people are already planning on doing this - anybody on here ? I fancy doing it now that twinge in hip is no longer affecting my squatting. It will be a long time to get squats back up to where they should be, but this will be the start.

Andy, I had planned to do this but due to the date change I won't be able to make it now. Stuart Murray should put on a great comp and hopefully a few new faces from Dumfries will be there competing.

Can you advise on unequipped please, my son will do the comp but doesnt own a suit of any sort and only lifts with a belt and chalk..He does'nt train specifically for powerlifting but has a good deadlift and would be up for the comp..
He's just turned 15 weighs 97kg and got a deadlift of 220kg at the recent Cumbrian push/pull..

Hello - there are equipped and unequipped divisions in this competition. For unequipped there is still a need to wear a non-supportive singlet/leotard - let me know if you need any guidance on these. There are a few other rules for attire - e.g. must have a plain t-shirt for squats and bench, belt must be within certain size (most are), long socks for deadlift.

He sounds a strong lad - a really impressive deadlift for a 15 year old!! It would be great to see him lifting.

It was good to be doing a competition away from the usual venue in Glasgow, and the turnout in Dumfries was good, with new lifters from the local area and others who travelled down to compete. Also a good crowd was in to watch the lifting, including some well known ex-lifters reminiscing about previous battles on the platform. Again unequipped lifters were in the majority. Leigh Grant, Graeme Sturgeon and Andrew Dudgeon all with some impressive lifts, though star of the deadlifts was Mark Morley who was along to set a new record of 255kg in the 83kg class. Neil Morton was lifting equipped, though it was just knee wraps on the squats, and managed a 610kg PB total despite missing all his third attempts. Stuart Crichton was looking in great form nailing a 275kg third attempt squat and a 280kg deadlift, but the bench proved his undoing failing them on technicalities. It was good to see Mary Anderson lifting some massive weights, and Heather Ratcliffe continuing to make progress. A very big thank you to Stuart Murray and Burns Gym for hosting.

Results are below, and the updated records are now on http://www.scottishpowerlifting.com, together with a few video clips. There are plenty of photos from the comp on Facebook, thanks to Willy Lincoln for posting those. If anybody has any more videos / photos just let me know, as it would be great to include them.
