First post on the forum here, great site, been reading all the articles on it and love the general attitude round it. Will deffo be spending my time on here for strength related info!

So basically im looking for some honest advice and straight talking. I've been doing generalised rugby weights training and playing rugby for past 3 years and starting doing a bb routine last year with a new housemate at uni. This is my final year at uni and i've finally found a gym with the strongman kit which i've been looking for for ages and have been training for strength as opposed to endurance for rugby and reps for getting bigger.

My finals at uni are coming to an end saturday week and to date i've got about 6 sessions of strongman events in. There is u105kg comp coming up here soon and the events are as follows :

griphold 250kg
tire flip (3 flips) & 15m sled pull (350kg)
log press for max (starts 80kg)
130kg farmers for 20m
car deadlift for reps
stones 100 115 130 140 160

Basically would i be stupid to enter this? I've always wanted to do a comp and i'll have 2 weeks of training before it. To date my feats of any great note are 150kg bench, 210kg squat, 200kg deadlift, 220kg rack pull, 140kg squat x 26 reps, and a lot of cv work for rugby. I've done a 100kg log easy enough before.

So in short,

Would it be too soon to enter my first comp? Would 2 weeks of heavy event training see much progress for me or has the timing of all this with uni being bad for me and just train for next year?

Cheers lads and thanks for any advice of what i should be doing.

do it dude, what do you have to lose? As in, what are you worried about?

your strength is more than enough.

where is this comp mate?

Are those the deffinate events for the Ireland comp?

Northern ireland. Was all set for doing it and training was going well but i havn't been getting the hard training in with these f**king books, but it's a necessary evil i suppose.

Really love the sport and want to start sooner rather than later but was just worried incase i would be too far off the mark.

Would a arm over arm pull of a car be much similar to a 350kg sled pull?

Give it a go, you will hopefully meet some good guys who will give you pointers on how to move forward and you will learn more by doing it than watching it.

Just be realistic with your goals; for instance its unlikely that you will win in your 1st comp, but set some acheiveable PB targets so that you come out in a positve frame of mind.

This is a comp in northern ireland tony, the one in limerick is a "all-ireland" competition and as far as i know they havn't confirmed events yet, they seem to have changed a bit. You for entering it?

AvatarJoni
if you dont do it, you will regret it Happy

if you wait that you are "good enough" - you will be waiting for a long f**king time, trust me LOL!

dive in mate, and see what happens. Chances are you will f**king love every minute of it!

good to hear there is a 105 comp in NI as well, hope it goes well.
