This morning... (I'm not including all the warm-up lifts, not that I do many!)

POWER CLEANS (with small diameter (10Kg) discs on)...

102.5 - 3 reps, 3 reps, 3 reps.

DEAD LIFTS standing on blocks (approx 2.5")...

245 - 1 rep, 1 rep.

Slightly strained my back on the 2nd single. Nothing major. This meant I had to skip squats.

CHINS (under-hand grip)...

BW+20 - 3 reps, 3 reps
BW - 9 reps.

SINGLE-HAND PLATE PINCHING

I currently use a pair of 15s (smooth side outwards!) with a chain threaded through for a little extra weight. I did 3 sets each hand - pick it up, hold until it starts to slip, put down. These holds last a few seconds, with my right hand out-performing my left.

That's good!

I think that's a good choice of weight for the log. Slightly on the heavy side - just as it should be!! I'd consider myself to be an average presser for an u105 strongman, and I've done 2 full reps with that weight in training.

Us shorties are the guys who cause headaches for comp officials when it comes to the yoke!!

I've just been playing with my Captains of Crush number 1.5 gripper. Should that be included in my journal? I can easily rep with it with my right hand, but my left hand can only just close it. Interestingly it is nearly always my RIGHT hand that gives way first on holds.

How can I edit the title of a thread? There is a small error in the title of a training journal I've just set up.

Firstly, here are my current PB lifts...

DEAD LIFT - 252.5 (I know I can beat this now - back is stronger than ever)
SQUAT (wrapped) - 230
SQUAT (raw) - 207.5
STRICT PRESS - 105 barbell, 106 log
PUSH PRESS - 122.5
LOG - 120
AXLE - 121
SILVER DOLLAR DEAD LIFT - 340
POWER CLEAN - 112.5
BENCH - never train it, but I've done a comfortable 140

TODAY'S TRAINING...

I was still not 100% recovered from training HEAVY with WILLSAN and jt on Sunday, so I didn't do as much as I was planning to.

AXLE (continental clean & push press) - worked up to...
110 - 2 full reps, 2 full reps, 2 full reps

DEAD LIFTS (standing on blocks) - worked up to...
243.5 - 1 rep, 1 rep

SQUATS (raw) - worked up to...
180 - 6 reps

Only just!

Great session! I feel pretty beaten up today! I think I was most pleased with the 160-per-hand initial lift on the farmer's walk. The 340 partial dead lift was pleasing too. Yoke is still a bad event for me - but I am definitely improving.

Thanks Will and Jason.

I'm not overly keen on axle dead lift as an event. Dead lift should be primarily about back strength. If you want to test grip use a hold.

Holds are so boring though mate, both to participate in and for the spectator

Not necessarily. Make it heavy (so people aren't standing there for over a minute) and impressive-looking (rear end of a car?).

I'm sure if Joni's sleeves were pulled back the other 3 would be fighting for 2nd place!

the events arent that light - 120kg farmers, 110kg log wont be easy.

Is that what's classed as "novice" these days? Wow, this sport moves on. What happened to the days of 85 logs and 90 farmer's?
