I am in your boat as regards lower-back and a (possible) conversion to Sumo.

Im not too sure about assisting for your sumo pull but trap-bar deadlifts are a good alternative for deadlifting while taking a bit of pressure off the lower-back.

Whether a person is happy being fat or not might be subjective, but how can the amount of fat which is bad for your health be subjective?

I was just answering the thread title - "how does a strength athlete know he is overweight". Thats subjective, and varies from person to person, I feel.

It's a totally subjective thing. It depends on your goals. Personally, if I gain weight too fast I get a big gut, which I hate. Some guys don't mind getting fat so long as their strength is booming. Do what makes you content in your own mind.

16.7.11

Squat

20x8
60x5
80x5
100x3
120x3
140x3
160x2 (a third rep felt impossible)
160x3 - total grind.

Squatting 3 times a week has garnered great progress but my knees both have bakers cysts and I felt gubbed today.

Log

30x5
40x5
50x5
60x3
70x3
80x2 3F

Loving this log thing.

Is type 2 diabetes not associated with obesity? By the look of you, you're body seems to be reacting fine to the fuel you are giving it.
» Can't squat. Can't bench. Can deadlift....a little. (Go to post)15-07-2011 @ 22:23
Super pulling mate. Good luck when the PB attempt happens!

It's interesting how your squat is lagging behind (mine does too). My squat has come on well recently, I think, by squatting 3 times a week. 2 back squat session and 1 front squat.

I can't believe anybody can squat more than they can pull. Weirdos Happy

Yeah, good point. 125kg lean is indeed really huge!

Very rushed tonight. Think I'm going to change to 4 sessions a week.

Fronties

60 x 3
80 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 3
130 x 2 3F

Bench

60 x 3
80 x 3
100 x 3
110 x 3
90 x 10

I think the frontie fail was down to doing some ab rolling on Monday. I must do abs every session!
