» Englands Strongest Man u90kg 2012 (Go to post)10-06-2012 @ 21:56
We have the same thing here, couple English guys living in Scotland who will likely do SSM, as they are permanent residents here. One was talking about doing one of the regional English qualifiers as well, but we just said no, it's one or the other.

Spoke to Dave about this briefly as well, he said it's fine, as at the end of the day, the qualifiers and national comps will still ultimately find BSM U90 at the end of the day.

I also think people expect far too much. Why would a company givbe you hundreds of pounds worth of free stuff until they see some return?
My sponsorhip was a result of me applying but before I won anything major or hit any big numbers. It was more down to my attitude and approach to training and my time spent online on forums etc I also didn't expect the earth in return to begin with.

Yes, definitely true. We sponsor a fair range of athletes now, or varying levels, mainly dependent on how they 'pitch' the way and level of exposure they will give us, but to be honest, 75% of the time, once we've given some sponsorship goods etc, very little actually happens. The same with comps as well. There are a few solid folk who we work with on an ongoing basis, and who always deliver at or above the anticipated/promised levels.

We get emails every few days asking about sponsorship, some extremely well written, others not so. A huge thing is exposure more than the amount of titles held, or comps won etc. If someone posts on numerous forums, and has a youtube page with x amount of subscribers it's a lot more attractive to a company from an exposure point of view. Similarly facebook and twitter are massive.

martin said:You have to also see the sponsor's side - what can you bring to them by them sponsoring you?

This is an excellent point. If you can justify to a company how they're likely to see a return from the sponsorship then you're half way there.

We often advise people to try small/medium sized local companies/businesses. This is where the greatest success in gaining sponsorship has been recently.

Unless you want to clean the log and end up with 2 handles in your hands!

Not sure what you mean by that, not been any issues with our steel logs as far as I'm aware.

Our 323mm logs are IFSA spec also, but yes, slightly different and more expensive than JT's entry level logs.

No problem, glad they fit ok.

Mark said:Question on elbow sleeves, looking to buy some double ply Thor sleeves. Elbow is 31.5cm, which is between large and extra large. Would the tighter L be recommended or go for a slightly looser XL? Cheers Happy

There's not a great difference between the two. Best with XL's I'd say.

fong said:i sent back my rehband old style knee sleeves (which are being used for my elbows) for a bigger pair the day before yesterday, did you receive them yet? when will you be posting them out again?

sorry to sound impatient, the ones i use on my knees are brilliant, need to get the top half covered now!

great job on the nose tork too, nearly took my head off the first time lol.

Replacements would be sent out via 1st class post the day after we receive them back, so if we've received them back yesterday the replacements will be sent to you today. No way to check until Monday for sure though. If they're not with you by Monday afternoon send an email to info.strengthshop@gmail.com and we'll check on it.

Yeah it's for the hold, I was going to get the longer axle ones, but I figure they would be a bit awkward
I haven't looked on your website in a while you have a lot of cool new stuff!
Cheers dude

Yeah, I think not really any necessity for the black & forth ones. Thicker makes them a little harder/chunkier to grip round, and I've never heard of the standard ones snapping anyway. Quite slippy material though eh, good plan to rub chalk into them before hand, especially when they're new (an old Frank Connolly trick Happy

Aye, always fair bit new stuff on the site.

Looking forward to Saturday, hardly been to anything so far this year!

Any idea when the big tubs of comp grade spider tack will be back in stock?

Cheers,

Should be back in by the end of the week Benvie.

Will be going to SSM on Saturday if you want me to bring a tub (providing they're here by then)?

I ordered some stuff on Wed and it came today. Nice and quick! I got the size wrong for the elbow sleeves. Any chance of exchanging them for a bigger pair?

Yes, no problem, subject to usual T&C. Just send an email through for details on how to send etc, to info.strengthshop@gmail.com

Replacement bands and the 24kg KB arrived today via a knackered looking courier. Great stuff!

Dave

No problem Dave, glad they reached you safely.

stuarty said:Buzz, I'm after a squat suit but you just seem to sell DL suits, looking at your website? do you sell squat suits?

Don't sell them Stuart, Pullums probably your best bet for them.

boldylocks said:buzz, the rope you have, does that only come in blue?

Yes, just in blue, and I think just one roll left, and that's the last of it unfortunately.

brownbear said:any chance either the thor or odin knee sleeves will be on sale soon?

No plans to. It's very rarely that the sleeves ever go on promotion.
