80kg x 1
95kg x 1 - crap - no legs

95kg x 3 PB much better

Farmers walk
70kg x 40m 1 turn
100kg x 40m 1 turn 16.7 secs PB

105kg x 1
130kg x 1
140kg x 1
150kg x 1
130kg x 4 PB

Still not happy with the log, but after the first crap attempt at 95 I dropped back down and got the double dip going much better. Farmers were really pleasing, surprised myself that I actually picked them up if I'm honest! Yoke was a bit s**tty - I was just trying to go too fast with it and losing control, will have to take it a little bit easier at the comp next week (but only a little bit ). Stones were good - I'm still struggling a tad with the platform height, but it's getting there.

Joni and Olly had great session too today, both of them making good progress, really pleasing to see their hard work paying off. "The machine" Anthony joined us for his first strongman session ever today (he's doing the first timers comp next week in Scotland). He's just crazy, weighs 84kg, loaded the 150kg stone 120kg farmers 80kg log clean and press 7 reps first time on everything - hope he doesn't put 20kg on and start as a 105!!!!

Great session matey, really impressive on the farmers. That stone loading was pretty sweet too. Get a little closer to the platform and you've got 5 easy.

Nice to see the hard work paying off.
AvatarSparrow
Cheers Olly - I think it's fair to say everyone had great sessions today.

Ride the Sugden wave...
AvatarJoni
awesome work mate, that farmers is starting to get to the weights that really counts. No use going for a jog with the 100s for you.

It was a great entry from The Machine as well, i f**king hope he is at least a wee bit sore tomorrow Grin

Going to have to get myself down soon. I'm intersted to see how much crossover there is between gym lifts and events.
AvatarRick
Sounds like a great session for everybody.

Ant's just not human. The idea of him another 20 ripped kilos heavier is frankly f**king terrifying.
AvatarSparrow

Wide grip chins

i think you will do well tone - your tall and apparently thin legs are perfect for strongman Grin

edit : nice coc work millsy
AvatarSparrow
You are full of compliments today aren't you boar?Tongue

Skinng legs and good coc work - cheers!Grin
AvatarRob
I hope you read homework more accurately when you mark it Millsy. The Leyland Locomotive (boar) was referring to Tony.

Not that you don't have skinny legs Grin
AvatarSparrow
It's called inference. Why would skinny legs be perfect for strongman (and written in my log)? I don't know - maybe you've just made me paranoid.
AvatarRob
Oh...... yea. Maybe I need some homework.
AvatarRob
Millsy.. best wishes on Sunday mate.
AvatarCuddles
Good Luck on Sunday mate!

I'm sure you can place pretty well in most events. Time to put that training to use!

Have a good one.

Cheers for the best wishes guys. I'll stick my write up in here and put tonight's workout in. First session all week and I feel like s**t, all achy and lethargic.

Up at 5.00am 4.5hours drive, half an hour to loosen up and straight to it (tired)

Log - 8 reps not bad, not particularly good, did 8 first time, then 9 second time in training so was hoping for 10 but it wasn't to be.

Yoke and chain - pleased with this, the yoke felt much better (as in stable) than mine (although trianing on a wobbly yoke is probably really good practise), 1st place.

Farmers - s**te. Got to the 4th turn, only needed another metre for the win, couldn't turn the buggers back round (on the video it loked like I tried to pull them round rather than just turn with them and go). 2nd place. Wanted a lot further than this, but I suppose I never really trained farmers for distance - all my energy just seemed to go at once. These were quite cumbersome compared to mine though, banging against your legs so I couldn't get top speed and the sharp turns were quite awkward - you lost all momentum (you just put your foot on the line and went rather than walk around something)

Medley - what a cock (up!). Sprinted like a lunatic with the barrell, dived forards with it and launched it forwards. Had to go and get it, bring it back a bit, then finish it off. Tire felt s**te, no energy at all.

At this point I went outside and died. Well, nearly. Spewed my ring up a few times then had stones to look forwards too.

It should be noted at this point that all I had eaten all day was a barm, bag of crips and a mini twix. Hadn't felt good all week and comp nerves made it difficult to eat anything.

So, 3.5 points in the lead, just my (joint) favourite event to go. I said to Al at the start - "what's the time to beat?", he said "just make sure you do them all". I thought he meant that as in "don't get carried away with yourself sonny" type thing, not that all I needed to do to win was to do them all. I rushed like mad to get the fastest time possible, they felt wierd because they were covered with tacky so I didn't get my hands on them exactly where I wanted to. The last one was there, right on the lip of the platform, just slipped off, then again, (without re-chalking or applying the tacky i had on the BACK of my hand) I went for it again but just couldn't get it up. Gutted. 2nd place by half a point.

I should have done lots better. I would have won if:

1, I'd got 1 more rep on the log
2, I'd gone 1 more metre on the farmers
3, I hadn't taken a nose-dive in the medley
4, I'd taken my time and made sure I got the 120 stone instead or rushing like a loon to get the fastest time.

I also think it was too much to drive both ways in the same day. I was PROPERLY ill last night, just had my first solid meal since yesterday morning, starting to come round a bit now.

No excuses though, I should have done better.

As far as training - stones, no more 1 rep stuff, series or reps only for a while to 52 inches to punish myself!!! Farmers for distance to punich myself and medleys too. Might even get a bit fitter which I obviously need. Others were getting psyched between events, I was sat down hoping I didn't have to get up again too soon and just wanting to go to bed. I think lucozade and jelly babies are on the next contest menu.

As far as other competitors, Jonathan did very well coming third (finishing just half a point behind me), The machine Anthony did well too (although I know he will be disappointed to fall in the medley and not get all the stones (like I am). Joni deserves a special mention for an outstanding performance. His log looked very strong, after 5 reps he put the log down and I was shouting "DON'T f**kING QUIT" becuase he looked good for many more. He did well on everything though - equalling me on the stones (nearly ) and beating me on the medley

Look forwards to doing it again (when there hopefully won't be as many schoolboy errors).

9/3

Bench press
up to 120kg x 3
130kg x 3

3 board press
140kg x 3

Wide grip chins
+20kg x 14

Hamer curls
25kg x 12

Bit of pinch grip and grippers, but pretty s**te, just didn't have any energy tonight, still f**ked from weekend, and to top it all off I got a 'Notice for intended prosecution' from Fife speed camera campaign or some bo***cks like that. 80mph in a 70 zone - but what do they expect - it was clocked at 10.58 and I was supposed to be at the venue for 10.30 so of course I'm going to be driving fast, but they probably wouldn't understand anyway. So it looks like a 60 squid fine and 3 points on my license if I'm lucky. In retrospect I prolly should have just stayed over the night before!!!
