Monday, 12th December, start 15:15

Very cold again, still snow on the ground most of which has performed its usual trick of turning to ice.

Facepulls
15 x 10
20 x 10
25 x 10
30 x 10
35 x 10
40 x 10
45 x 10
45 x 10
45 x 10

Dumbbell rear raise
10 x 10
10 x 10
10 x 10
10 x 10

Tbar rows, not done on the usual machine but on quite a different contraption in the other room. The main difference is that the chest is not supported on these, plus the weights are in kilos

20 x 10
25 x 10
30 x 10
35 x 10
40 x 10
45 x 10
50 x 10
55 x 10
60 x 10
65 x 10
70 x 10
75 x 10
80 x 10

I will end it there as I have to go on a small adventure

We have a gentleman at the club who is known as Old Michael, he is a fine fellow who trains early, so it is no big deal for us not to see him from one month to another.

On Friday we found his training belt and gloves left on a machine. We assumed that he had simply forgotten them and thought no more about it. However they were still there today, this is rum, he is a frequent trainer and would surely not have forgotten then twice running.

Concerned, I rang him, it went straight to voicemail and I left a message. I also sent a text. By the end of my workout there had been no answer to either, I knew he lived local but did not know where. Happily he had written his address inside his belt, it wasn't far away so I trudged off in the snow and ice to parts unknown except to google maps.

About twenty minutes later I was knocking on his door. A very hale and hearty Michael opened it and asked me what I wanted. I explained that we were concerned and he thanked us. It transpires that he had trained Friday and did not even realize that he had left his belt and gloves. He hadn't been back today as the weather was unpleasant.

I told him I was happy that all was well, shook his hand and trudged off back along the very same snow and ice.

So there you have it gentle reader, we all know that we should check on people during unpleasant times and if there is cause for concern. It is much easier said than done, but I say with some authority it is well worth doing

I drive a car, I park that car in a garage that is one in a clump of garages about seventy yards from the house. The garage has an up and over door and a short concrete ramp which must be driven up to enter.

Friday's snow covered the ramp, and as it is in a secluded spot it gets no sun, the thaw is slow, as slow as a slow thing. It also thaws in a circular fashion, rather like a polo mint where the hole is the ice and the mint has thawed.

It is possible to stand close to the door to unlock it, but to open it one has to stand on the ice - if you stand too close you have no room to open it and too far away you can't reach. So on the ice it is. As I open the door I slipped, I lowered my hands to prevent falling and in doing so I released the door, it shot up as far as it could and not being able to go farther came back down again, hitting me on the head in the process, this caused me to slip again. I swore.

Having got the car successfully into the garage I now had the same issue with closing the door, and bugger me if I did not repeat the entire process as described above. Slip, hit head on door and slip again.

I f**king hate snow.

I chortled at your predicament with glee and gay abandon! Hope you're OK and you don't repeat the entire process this evening.

You're very welcome. It was utterly ridiculous and a great shame there was no-one there to see it. I am fine thank you, garage doors are not very solid whereas my head is

Wednesday, 14th December, start 15:30

Very cold tonight, very cold indeed, as cold as a blonde's heart as Raymond Chandler once said.

Squat, sleeves and boots on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 5
100 x 5
115 x 5
115 x 5
115 x 5
115 x 5
115 x 5
It was always going to be fives tonight, the plan was to go to 145 and do five sets at that.
Two reasons why not.
One; I have had a bit of a cold myself, my nose started running last Thursday, it has stopped now but things and not right yet. It took longer than it should have to get my breath back and the nose was clogging during each set, so definitely now a night for anything ambitious.
Two; it is cold, really so very cold and my old bones were complaining.

To make amends for the fact that I am staying at such a low weight I decide to do paused squats, they were all smooth and fluent and as deep as I will ever get and once these decisions were made I really quite enjoyed them

It was -2 when I left for the gym at 2:30 and -4 when I returned at 6:30. So It was probably not above zero for me at any point in between. I never used to mind the cold but I do now.

As least the garage was incident free :-)
