LaTuta said: Maybe shaw is just better at reps. His 420kg last year was slow as hell. He could have have never gotten 462kg like Eddie. And thats why he didn't even attempt it. I also don't think Z is good for 470 or 480kg but i would never count him out. Also never count out benni. Agreed. Shaw is better at reps than a 1 rep max. I could see him hitting a 460ish lift though. I think Eddie could be good for something in the 480 region but won't do it unless he is pushed.

I think Z is now behind Eddie, Shaw and Thor on deadlift and I would be very surprised to see him go over 450. People always underestimate Thor and Shaw on the deadlift. Shaw equaled Z for reps as far back as the WSM final in 2010 and beat Eddie comfortably in the final in 2015. Thor maxed 450kg, more than we have ever seen from Z lifting from the floor I believe?

Robbo91 said: You might be right, especially as it's often the deciding event. It's certainly crap when there's a strongman of Lalas or Hixxys caliber who is struggling because the first platform is taller than they are. The heights of the barrels at Europes seemed to be ok for everyone. Stones are a bit different. If they are a really heavy set its ok, but with the light set guys like Thor and Shaw are so fast that it would be physically impossible for a 5ft 10 guy to beat them with high platforms. That's what makes it different to an event like Keg Toss where the short guy still can win if he is really strong.

Post Edited: 10.01.2016 @ 16:04 PM by MJG I would hold it in the UK obviously. I would also have a slight change of format and have 8 events in the final and 5 in the heats. 6 just isn't enough. Not so sure about weights but I would go for - 1. Load into arm over arm pull - loading three objects into skip/sled over a 25M course. Then Arm over arm pull the sled back up the 25M. 2. Overhead Medly - A number of objects (lets say 10) Points assigned to each object. Objects include WR log, natural stone, dumbell and Axle etc and points heavily weighted so anyone achieving a record cannot be beaten by someone that doesn't. Whoever can accrue the most points wins the even. 3.Truck Pull - no idea about weight but it should be possible to complete for almost all the athletes. 4. Hussafelt stone - 200kg 5. Herculees Hold - either with the pillar set up or the cars. Would love to see how strong these guys grips are. 6. Super Yoke - 475kg and I want all 10 guys in a line doing it together 7. Squat - Max squat on regular squat set up. 8. Atlas stones - 170 to 210 KG. That would be a contest.
» 2016 Arnold Strongman Competitors? (Go to post) | 08-01-2016 @ 08:38
Just as a reminder as to what the major competitors did at the Arnold's in 2015 - Hummer tyre deadlift - Shaw won the event, Hall was second, Z was 4th and Thor failed to make a lift. I don't remember why? Austrian Oak - Z was the only guy able to press the 205kg log. Shaw and Hall drew with 5 reps on the 175kg and Thor scored 4 reps. The Cyr dumbell - Shaw got equal first with Savatinov with 6 reps, Z finished 4th with 4 reps, Thor equal 5th with 2 and Eddie in 7th with 1. Timber carry - Thor won, Z 3rd, Shaw 4th and Hall 7th. Bale Yoke - Shaw won and beat Z by 2 seconds. They were the only 2 guys to complete the course. Thor was 3rd and Hall in 5th.

Z hasn't beaten Shaw on a deadlift for a while has he? Reps or max? I think Z is more likely to win the whole thing than beat Shaw on deadlift.

Post Edited: 06.01.2016 @ 17:17 PM by MJG Good line up. Disappointed about straps on the frame and two overheads but no stones. Disappointed but not surprised. Great to see Lalas back and really hope he does well. I think Shaw will win and Z will be second or third. Much to the orginsers annoyance Z has only finished in the top 2 twice in the last five years. |
