I think id rather be slow.

That's very impressive. bas***d.

Boar - you can make huge progress wth endurance as a slightly more mature fellow, and given you're appetite for beating yourself I fully expect you too.

Just not enough to beat me Wink

Seriously though, I wouldn't be thinking about age at all. Plenty of people making progress well into their 50s.

now, both myself and (lets call him)steve are training ....both training hard ..... steve is faster than me , say about 40 watts FTP ..... is there any hope of me catching upto him ? I guess I have a bit of 'injury weight' to take off

How far up the road are they? Cycling isn't just about ftp, if it was, there would be no point in racing, we'd all just submit our numbers and take our placings.

It will depend on how far up the road they are, how hard they are currently riding relative to their ftp, and your fitness make up (vo2 max, relation of vo2 max to ftp, recovery rate etc). If they are riding close to ftp you're going to have to go pretty deep to catch up. But then you can sit in the wheel and recover, well, fitness permitting anyway. If you did that to me in a race id attack you straight away, knowing that you'd unlikely catch me again. If you've got a decent vo2 max you'll find it easier to bridge across.

Does that make sense?

Nice work gents.

So can you set up private races? Because if you can, then we should definitely have a Sugden race.

I fear you boys would drop me on current form!

That's how I would do it too.

I'm really not convinced you need to spend 6 hours on a turbo very often Steve. I know you don't have many roads to use, but I just don't see that as necessary for a 112 mile bike leg. Not at all.
» what did you have for tea? (Go to post)11-09-2016 @ 21:03
This morning I had poached eggs on toast, avocado with chilli and lime, balsamic roasted tomatoes and some buttered spinach. A firm Sunday breakfast favourite.

Just had rolled pork belly stuffed with black pudding, roast potatoes, yorkshires, carrots, leeks, kale and sweet potato purée. Followed by dark chocolate brownie and salted caramel ice cream and washed down with a bottle of Malbec. Couldn't fault a single bit of it and the dessert was special.

With prosecco, strawberries and a toffee meringue in Hyde Park in the sun earlier it's been a rather enjoyable Sunday.

Steve - if it's in erg mode, is it then not just the same as TR? Ie the only difference is that you're watching yourself on a screen as a distraction? If so, I think I'd rather watch something on I player etc.

Please do tell me if I'm wrong, as I do like the concept and would be keen to make the most of it if I'm missing something.

i suspect not. You can upload both to training peaks and keep all your work logged there though. Or strava if you prefer to keep it simple.

I think I'm going to have a look at the cyclops app. I fancy riding climbs rather than racing for the off season.

Fair play to Chavez, that was one hell of a ride. It's very hard not to like him. This season has been a real coming of age for Orica too.

Tried zwift earlier and then quickly remembered that the front derailleur on my turbo bike is goosed. Wish I hadn't started the free trial now. The 20 minutes or so that I did seemed fun but I'm not sure it's for me at the moment.

It has potential to be an epic stage though. If Orica and Saxo get in the mix it could be carnage.

Unfortunately these stages often end up underwhelming.

You guys have made me want to try this. You get it free for a while with strava premium right? I've got a free month to use there so might give it a whirl.

That was a pretty savage time trial that Froome put out yesterday. Today has the potential to be absolute carnage. I think Quintana will hold on comfortably, but I'm sure he'll be privately bricking it.

I hope he holds on. Losing a near 4 minute lead could ruin him.

We should set up a club on TR too so I can nosey on your workouts.

I already know you watch me, I can feel your gaze on my derriere.

I think we probably all share the same need to push ourselves hard at something. I guess there are just a lot of different somethings.

I do miss lifting sometimes. But then I ride my bike.

About 17,000m of climbing. Or nearly Everest twice....

Takes in the Madeleine, Croix de Fer, Glandon, Madone, Colombiere, Galibier, Telegraphe, Bonette and Izoard to name a few. I think it's 17 in total.

Join me! Grin
