Weird injury specialist - now with funny groin Member 283, 1648 posts | IPF depth squat or not Ed is still very very strong. Going back 30 years or so Tony Stevens squatted 380 in a BWLA powerlifting comp. I don't think there were suits around then so would of been raw & he was in the 100 KG class. Would have loved to have seen that. Take a trawl through youtube & you may find a vid from no more than 4 years back of him squatting 330 in a Inzer Z suit(which practically give you f**k all!) Amazing thing about it was he wasn't far of 60 years old when he did it. Back in the 80's he did 227.5 raw bench & 362.5 deadlift. Totalled 960 raw apart from knee wraps which I wouldn't imagine were much cop back then.

lets get learning !!! Member 1598, 723 posts SQ 210, BP 130, DL 200540.0 kgs @ 83kgs UnEq | Love Ed Hall every time Ive seen him hes been a pleasure to watch. Very strong squatting , I think the only reason people talk about his squat being quite high is because you know from your own training if you really sink a squat it is much harder. If you squat like Misha for example it definitely harder. But again it definitely has to be said that might not be the optimal way to train for strongmen considering many events don't require leg strength at those ranges. What ever is said thats a ton of weight and he keeps getting better and better.

Everyone is talking about him so he must be doing something right! He's pretty popular with the fans of he sport too! Agreed The only problem however I see to Eds criticism of any of his lifts is that (IMO), it maybe highlights waht a "tin pot" sport SM is We want our sport to have increased coverage, increased participation and popularity, but with that, comes more analysis of the top guys, their performances and training Footballers, rugby players, tennis players etc take massive amounts of media critiscims when things dont go well (not just criticism of a few 100 folk, critcism of media with circulation into the millions..) and they (in the vast majority) manage to hold their council with dignity I'm afraid, if, as a top athlete you want and carve media attention and exposure, then you have to accept that criticism comes with the territory

I think too the fact that he doesnt train events either makes it even more impressive how far he's come in SM so far (or puts him at a disadvantage???)
