I first read Tolkien's "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings" many years ago and have re-read them several times since.

What I had failed to notice is that the first chapter in both have very similar titles.

The Hobbit's is "An unexpected party" where Gandalf leaves a rune of Bilbo's door to show the dwarves where to go and they all turn up uninvited.

The Lord of the Ring's is "A long-expected party" where Bilbo turns eleventy one and Frodo thirty three on the same day. This had, of course been foreseen for some time.

On celebrity tipping point this afternoon, Tim Vine guessed the wrong one. But I wasn't guessing, I knew. But I was just as wrong as he was.

Sigh !

After guess three it was either one or the other, it was the other, so ended with a safe five

Another straightforward four

XXXXY
GXXXX
XXXYG

The obvious guess seemed an unlikely word (not sure why) but even if wrong it would have provided useful information. It was right.

An unusual four

XYGXG
GXGXG
XXXXX

Went for it after the first, used my used none vowel third and missed entirely, then got it on the fourth. Not sure why I used that third one, I'm sure I could have gone straight from two to four, although that didn't seem like a good idea at the time. Could have been a two, should have been a three, but at least I got it.
