Sat
Went to the push pull at Adlington
clean(well I'm sure it didn't look like one!) and press
70
80
90kg
I practiced a few of these earlier in the week with 65kg so I'm happy enough with what I did
Deadlifts
220
240
255
steady enough.
Good fun today and some impressive lifting.
Sun
Trained at intershape, were now getting a few people interested in lifting so we have a session every sunday, we were joined by 3 others today
warm up
squats
65kg x5
105 x5
145x5
195x2

bicep curls
felt ok considering I'd lifted heavy on DL on saturday.
I'm on Holiday for two weeks from Tues so I may do the odd session if I come across a gym. I'm going sport fishing with some friends, I'll let you know if I see any "boat chicks"!

I've been neglecting my duties as far as filling in my log are concerned, but since my hols Ive got back into it and I'm having to peak up pretty fast for the English champs later this month, I'm not expecting to do huge numbers so it's just going to be a stepping stone event for me and I'll probably do the NE championships as a guest lifter in November as the South Yorks is the day before the NW bench (Oct 19th). I prob won't do the NW championships as I'd prefer to focus on the organisation side of it.
Weds
squats with pink bands
warmup sets
60 x5
115 x 3
115 x2 3 sets
worked on the speed tonight
deadlifts
upto 2 sets
165 x3
hypers
hamstrings
curls

A few weeks ago I had a bit of a lower back injury, which for several days left me great dificulty in performing everday tasks. I made the decision to pull out of the English championships and saw the resident physio at the gym (for those of you who've been to Intershape at Colne it's the owner Margaret)and since then it's gradually got better with some appropriate rehab exercises. I started squatting again after a coule of weeks today I managed 125kg for a couple of sets of 5 with no problemms so I did a couple of sets of deadlifts too up to 105kg. I'm just going to gradually creep the weights back up. I plan to do the NW bench, so I've been doing some heavier doubles on that

ach, thats s**tty mate. But good to hear you are on the mend.

whats the root cause for the back injury? Is it muscle tightness or what?

Yes Joni the lower part of the back was very tight but there was no serious damage so the joints were manipulated and I've been doing some general rehab work, stretches and some core exercises. My feeling is that I pushed through a little hard at the finish of a squat and overextented the joints in that area. Finger crossed I should be back on full form soon, we also looked at some of the problems I've had associated with my knee.

Having read Robs comments about updating journals it has spurred me back into action. Ive been following a system for several weeks now of doing more sets but of 2 reps mainly applied to bench but squat also. The plan was I was going to guest lift at the YNE Masters at the end of January as my first contest this year. If I reflect upon what I've achieved this year I've improved my total by only 10kg and set a deadlift PB. Not a fantastic year had a few back and knee problems which hasn't helped and I really should of done another 3 lift event to give myself the opportunity to realise any gains, my bodyweight has reduced slightly(128-9 and Ive been 133) mainly due to a change of work and environment which means I end up missing out on those extra calories. I was spending a lot of time on the shop floor where you'd get away with eating a chicken leg etc where as now I'm in a very clinical office environment surrounded by 3 senior managers who frown upon unscheduled meal breaks. I think packing a couple of meal replacement drinks could be the answer. I trained squats today with 3 sets of 2 on 175kg and followed with a few light sets of deadlifts.

Having missed a couple of sessions due to the Holidays and travelling I went in and did a shakedown workout. 5 mins on bike, legpress-did about 6 sets on here for a change from squatting, leg curls, hyper extensions, abs and biceps. Before any of you say it I'm not becoming a bodybuilder! I've still been getting a bit of knee discomfort when squatting and have been doing the leg presses as a bit of a change. Fairly brisk workout as I trained alone.

Friday, quick heavy bench session as was going out after training.
put a slack shirt on and finished on 180kg x2 which I managed to get one down to the chest. The first time I've put a shirt on since the NW bench so it felt a bit odd.

Squats today
warmed up then put suit on for
165x2
195 x2
215 x2
felt ok dropped my head a bit on 2nd rep on 215.
3 sets of DLs
up to 145kg
hamstring curls, hypers and biceps
Will aim to post a bit more regularly on here in the run up to my contest on the 31st

Light bench tonight,
warm ups then
65 x8
105x5
125x2 5 sets

dumbell rows up to 45kg
light shoulder work
Felt ok, I'm having some treatment on my shoulders on Weds night as one has been a bit tight. An ounce of prevention and all that.
