Physio last night

So managed to get the car and some cash and went to see matt @ cosgroves. Really freed up the back. Back was stiffer then normal, just the muscles, at least the vertebrae are okish now. Felt great and helped with the pain.

The general thinking now is, start to very slowly dead lift again. Dead lifting very light, slowly working up. I can safely say im not going to go out and bang some 1rm out haha. The other annoying thing is that, its pretty much a given because of how my back is, the shape etc, when I lift im going to have pain and niggles. So im never really going to be pain free. Its just about managing with it. As long as I can get to dead lift properly and event train then it will be ok. but the key is lots of core, making sure im doing core after to keep the back free, and being able to control it myself. Still along way to go, got to strengthen the back up but least now I know. the dream of competing in a Britain’s comp looks further away than ever. And always having the pain is a b**ch. Oh well, Sarah better get used to me complaining about it then

Training last night

Back felt good. knees where in pain but nothing to much. Was first time dead lifting with more than 40k in over 6months. Most has been with bar and up to 40k.

Squats

B x lots
60 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 5
100 x 3
110 x 3
120 x 3
130 x 2
140 x 1 just, very just. Was a real struggle but very happy with that. Just felt like going for it, though wasn’t the plan. Went to do a second, or at least maybe just a partial but back really twinged and racked it got some stretches and plank done and it seemed fine.

Deads-

40k x 6
40k x 6
60k x 6
80k x 6

As said, first time in 6months gone over 40k or bar. Thought keep it very, very light. Though 60k felt like nothing at all so went for 80k and stopped there. All felt good till few seconds after and back really wasn’t having any of it.

Core and stretches. Back not good but no problem, walked up the hill home no probs so was happy. Just went to rest it for the night

This morning back is really not good. very painful and very depressing. Next week think ill just try more reps at 60k, or 70k, see how it goes again.

over weekend
didn’t get up to much, back has been extremely painful

did some core work on Sunday but found it very hard, i felt very very weak and some stuff i normally do i really struggled with.
Stretches this morning as could hardly move when got up. Core work tonight. no gym, no point even thinking about it while i cant move properly.

gym runs out in couple week. money i had to go to the garage, i know have to put into my car to get it on road due to fact sarah has been offered a new job so cant use her car anymore. until then i think ill do some mroe fitness work. running/ sprints. get fitter. get a bar and use the wheels for cleans (depending on back), shoulder etc. though going to be getting some dumbells soon and some weights aswell which be good. good thing now can train at own pace and when want to and i think i am re learning my self, and re thinking how i lift. And then get some Olympic weights and bar. Now for a while it will be more about
strength and health!

i cant stop lifting weights and trying to train for strength. but a re focus needed while i try slowly build up the deads. See what I can and cant do, different heights and positions maybe that don’t mean I spend a week without being able to move. im hoping it can be strong enough to do strongman event training. farmers and yoke being a concern though.

main problem i have i need something to aim for. something to think its all worth while. I don’t think im going to be able to get where I wanted in strongman now, not with this back and no sign of it getting much better. I can live with it until I dead lift, rugby and mma are out. we shall see. but if dead lift keeps putting my back like this, i simply cant do it. just going to have to slowly try do it, and see if different heights or different positions work.

yeah man, you have to do what you can enjoy and take care of yourself in the process. There is some kind of fundamental weakness in your back which needs addressing. The wall wont break no matter how much you hit your head on it.

plenty of other type of strength and conditioning training which kicks ass mate - and who knows, that kind of training might fix your back problem and you can start going heavier as well.

spent this week doing some pain relief exercises for the back.
started a egoscue routine last night for back rehab. still not got garage sorted as may be being made redundent. so no money atm. so just concentrate on back getting right atm.
