Anyone seen it?

I can only compare it to claiming a 100m WR having only run 70m

Yes I know its a lot of weight

yes I know it would snap my spine and = my total

Maybe there is a place for this type of thing but it should not be in a Powerlifting competition.

Beat me to it Will. I found the same vid.

This sort of s**te is why squat needs to be taken out of powerlifting and replaced with the zercher. Leave the squat as a gym exercise.

(I'm not being serious.)

Anyone giving that a white light shouldn't be a referee.

Easy in! Bad camera angle.
Watching from mars, through a muddy pair of toy binoculars, you couldn't say that was high.

When I sit in the referee's chair I always appreciate what is know in the trade as "easy judging" that is to say where a lift is so obviously and blatantly in or out that no decision is required.

Borderline lifts are the more difficult as you then have to suck, your teeth, stroke your beard and make a decision = yea or nay. This is where the scowling starts, when the lifter's friends and relatives believe it was in, and the refs believe it wasn't. They never argue but you can tell they disapprove

Common sense tells us that the refs are more likely to be correct as they have no vested interest in the lifter and are therefore impartial whereas his supporters, whether they mean to or not will be more lenient as he is their friend, and we are never as harsh on our friends.

The lift in the video is most definitely "easy judging" perhaps the easiest of any squat where the lifter stayed on his feet. Red lights all the way. Not a shadow of any hint of doubt. I would love to have a chat with one of those refs as I would like to know just HOW they decided to white light that.

If I were that lifter, I would be outraged, records and medals are only worth anything if they are deserved, not if they are wrapped as gifts.

I despair. If youtube didn't exist I could understand it, I would not condone it but I could understand it, but it does and they would have known at the time that it would be viewed beyond count and the majority would think them t**ts. Which in this instance is absolutely the correct thing to think.

He's gladly accepting the lift, just says that he never going to win awards for squat depth...

The problem is, that powerlifting has become so fragmented with all of the different federations (most of them being started because someone didn't like the judging of the one they were lifting in), that we are now at the point where people genuinely believe that this an example of a good squat.
They also tend to hold the belief that the IPF make their lifters squat unreasonably deep.

This mainly affects the American feds, but the BPC/BPU over here aren't that much better. High squats, touch and go benches and non locked out deadlifts are commonly passed as good lifts.

All we can do is laugh and despair I think, the genie is out of the lamp and I don't think he's getting put back in...

do the parameters set by each federation vary at all?

or are they all the same and it is solely down to interpretation?

Seems the tested feds also require proper lifts. The non tested Feds go for anything that makes for bigger numbers.

Based on the above lift, I wonder what he could actually 'squat'?

I believe the rules all have the same wording.

Strongman and powerlifting have both gone mad in what they except as strength these days
