Tons o'disruption, but since it's in aid of bulls**tting with both Sugden and Other NW boys on Sunday and watching the might that is Pete, that's alright then.

Friday 8/12

This was going to be pulls as usual, with some benching tomorrow to leave Sunday free, but Roberto talked me into benching and then pulling on Saturday.

Bench 20x8, 60x5, 80x3, 100x1, 115x1, 125x1 (all paused), 105x6+f, 100x8. Not great, but the 125 was easy enough. Out of a layoff and on short rest I'm pleased enough.

Incline DB Press 40x7, 37.5x8.

10 minutes on the elliptical, stretching. My right knee is utterly f**ked - I have real difficulty getting my heel even close to my buttock on that side at the moment. It took several minutes and a great deal of pain to manage.

Saturday 9/12, 2pm

First time I've lifted twice in a row in a long, long time - very possibly since the early '90s.

Deadlifts 60x8, 100x3, 140x1, 160x1 (all easy), 180xf, 170x1. No energy, flat as a pancake. I hate afternoons.

Narrow-grip pulldowns 63x8, 91x10x2.

Stretching (the knee still being an utter, utter tart) and home, annoyed.

Jonny, now that the powers at MT have denounced all the banter in the journals section, whatever will you do?

It's about time you, Dan, Pete, Little A and Wigan got yourselves logging over here, that's what I say.

yea,tbh , im not sure what the journals section is for if not a bit of banter - just lists of workouts n food intake would render it dead quicker than jimmy tarbucks appearance on strictly come dancing.

Tuesday 12/12

Squat 60x5x2, 80x3, 100x2, 120x1, 140x1, 110x5x3.

These started off agonising, but got a lot better. I'm swearing off squatting more than fives until I learn to do them right.

The 140 was actually not that hard - first time over 300lbs for over two months. Which is pathetic, but hey ho.

DB press 22.5x8, 35x8x2.

Seated rows (narrow) 63x8, 105x8x2. Technically a PB, coz I'm only just starting these, but I'm not claiming at as such.

Assisted chins -15x3x3.

Stretching, home. Knee *hugely* improved - range of motion is now just about OK, and no real pain. Squatting is kill or cure for my knees at the moment.

Friday 16/12

Now this is more like it.

Deadlifts 60x8, 100x3, 140x1, 160x1, 170x1, 180x1, 185x1.

I had pulled the 180 before I realised I still had my shoes on. It wasn't hard. The 185, with shoes off, was considerably easier. I actually had the form and mental setup locked in today.

I probably should have gone higher, but after Saturday's debacle I decided I just wanted to pull 400lbs. Pull it I did.

Narrow-grip pulldowns 70x8, 98x8x2.

Assisted chins -15x3x3.

Stretching - knees felt *good*. By which I mean they had their "full" range of motion, and the left one stopped hurting after the first warmup set.

I might start adding in some curls again on Friday nights or maybe Sundays, since Roberto is starting to turn into such a big boy now.

Sunday 17/11

Wide Pulldowns 70x12.

Bench 20x8, 60x5, 80x3, 100x1, 110x1, 60x2 as we switched to a better bar, 120x1, 130xf (all paused), 110x6x2.

Incline DB Press 42.5x6x2.

Wide Pulldowns 70x8, 105x6x2.

Wide Seated Rows 112x6x2.

Roberto's Sekrit Bicep Supercombo 3 sets. Ouch.

The 130 was good in that the leg drive worked for the first time in a long time, and popped the bar off my chest beautifully, but bad in that I was so surprised I fell off-line. The two rep sets after that got better almost from rep to rep, and were very pleasing indeed. Just right for the last bench session until January.

Nice work today mate, you're looking strong. Very quick comeback considering the layoff.

And particularly good work on the secret supercombo - we showed Tokar how it's done. He doesn't realise the biceps need to be treated with respect.

I actually have some stiffness and mild soreness of the bis today, Rob. So that's nice.

Jonny - I shall squat, press, and latwork as usual on Wednesday. Friday will be deads and latwork as usual - and I'm now thinking I might throw in one more bench session before The Great Layoff.

Which begins on the 23rd, and may well last until the 2nd - this is the period for which Sugden is closed (I know, unbelievable, a gym that shuts for ten days every winter). I'll be away for the first six or seven of those days with no opportunity to train anyway, unless I try to get my mother's bf to take me to work with him and train there. And frankly I'm too pretty to go and lift weights in a prison.

If anyone's training on New Year's Eve, or maybe on the 30th if I'm back, I would likely be up for a drive to join in with them. That would cut the layoff to a week's missed sessions, which would be not too bad.

News Years Eve Day deadlifts at Cats or Reps I vote! A lot of places will be shut on New Years Day and I doubt anyone will want to train anyway.

Good idea mate, if Reps is only open till 2 on Sundays then it might be better going to Cats so we can start about 1 or 2 (if that's OK for everyone). Deadlifting in the morning isn't a great idea!

I'd quite like to try the chains out at Cats. Not sure if they would work the deadlifts. If you want to use your bands Jonny we could try setting up some reverse band deadlifts in the rack!
