I envy your anonymity. Being my height, everyone remembers you. Without fail. It can make for some awkward moments when you introduce yourself to someone you've already met who remembers you well Grin

Much better row this evening. I felt tired and weak last night, but far better today. So structured the same with the 30r20 and splits that were slow, medium, fast, medium and slow. But 2 seconds quicker than yesterday, and with a lower heart rate too.

I'll probably do the same again tomorrow, but 2 seconds faster still.

Cheers JT. I quite enjoy it, but it's definitely more unpleasant than a gently negative split to end on the same overall time/distance.

I did the same thing again today, taking another 2 seconds off the split. It's starting to get a bit unpleasant, and I suspect another 2 seconds off would be pretty much max effort for R20. Interestingly though, my distance is identical to my last 30r20 at a 160bpm cap, but today's effort was just 1bpm higher overall (160 instead of 159).

I'm quite happy where I am at the moment just bumbling around in the 30 minute zone. I've still got a bit mental block with shorter distance work, and my still arse strain means I'm cautious of high effort work at present. I really out to do a proper 2k at some point, as I'm fairly certain (assuming the mental gremlins don't get me) that I have a 6:20 in there.

Anyway, today's efforts:

I'm very busy at work this week, and my glute pull is a bit achy. So minimal training this week I think. I did do 12k steps today, doing lots of winching on incredibly rough ground on Dartmoor. It's not like I'm not grafting Grin

Spot of erging this evening with my brother (he was lifting weights).

Arse strain doesn't feel too bad, but generally feel tired and like I'm falling apart a bit. Long days at work at the moment.

C2:

WU - 2000m, 7:20, can't remember any other details.

2000m - 6:34.4 - just a steady row really, with me putting my foot down only in the final 150m to nudge myself under 6:35. I'd intended only to do 6:45, so went out with a planned 1:41 pace, but seemed to hold just under 1:40 throughout. I reckon 6:20 would be in there if my life depended on it.

4000m/15:00 cooldown. Got my intended distance to the metre, but my OCD part of my brain is hurting as I took my eye off the ball just for a moment at the end of the second split and did an extra metre to cock up the perfect uniformity of the row. The extra metre didn't show up on the total, so who knows where it went Grin

Solid steady 2k.

But on the cool-down you also completely screwed up the spm in the 4th inveral, and let's not even talk about the heart rate!

Do you think 163bpm is high enough for a cool down?

If I don't see a 6.20 2k by the end of March I am going to come down there and whupp your lanky ass to death. Wink

It is gutting. I will have to try harder next time Grin

It was a fairly high HR, but it wasn't a proper cooldown, more an effort to keep the metres up.

I know. I don't blame you. I just find the 2k rather intimidating. As I said before, my plan is to split it as follows: 1:38, 1:36, 1:34, 1:32.

That should be doable.

Nice 2k and 4k/15 mins.

Your SR is nice and low for those paces - as it should be!

Thanks Millsy. I was just saying to my wife that I just can't rate high unless it's a max effort piece. It seems that I've settled into a 'standard amount of power per stroke', and to go faster I just increase the rate.

A bit of an abortive session this evening but productive nevertheless. I'm doing long hours at work at the moment, not sleeping well and the gym was 1c, so a bit conscious of the injury risk of doing too much, especially with my arse pull.

Anyway:

C2:

15:00 - 4208m 1:47.0/500m 20spm 166bpm

5:00 - 1433m 1:44.7/500m 23spm 165bpm

5:00 - 1250m - 2:00.0/500m - just a cooldown.

Whats the Highest HR you have seen on your monitor? What do you reckon your man is? Have you calculated your training bands?

I think 184 is the highest I've seen. Since getting the monitor at Christmas, I've not really done any sprint work at all, so I'm not sure if that's my true max. I would guess my true max is about 190. I've not calculated training bands, but do quite often do HR capped rows now.

Had a top-notch 30r20 capped at 160bpm this evening.

Weirdly, my heart just took ages to get going. It took the whole of the first split to actually get to 160bpm, so the first 6 minutes are stupidly fast. Faster than I could maintain for the full 30 minutes, regardless of heartrate. Even the second split was still very fast.

The end result of 8305m is a pb by 113m at this heartrate. I've no idea why it went so well today, but I'm not grumbling. I had a long day at work, did 6-7k steps in the woods and haven't eaten especially well.....most odd.
