After a 4 month lay off from training due to losing my job and returning to college for a career change, I was about as pissed off as I could get. Started back at end Jan, and after getting back to somewhere near where I was I have been writing my training down since March this year. Decided to start this log as I am back in PB territory again!

Current goals are 2xBW squat, 1.5BW bench and 2.5BW DL, which I am finding difficult to hit, as the stronger I get the bigger I get...(used to look like a POW 2 years ago - at one workplace my nickname was Belsen!) Currently about 90kg this means I need about 35kg on my current squat (maybe a bit less with a better belt), 25-30kg on my bench and about 70kg (maybe a bit less) adding to my deadlift. I want to hit these goals by the end of the year, the focus at the moment is on bench.

Routine I am using is a Russian cycle, training bench 3 x week (sat, mon, wed) and squat and deadlift alternate sessions. Bench goes heavy each session but the others cycle a heavy medium and light workout day over two week cycles. Not much assistance, mainly back and core with some grip/arm work, as this is where my weakness lies.

Any comments/advice welcome, vid to come from next Wed session, which will be a PB attempt on bench and a 1RM DL (although if I feel strong I will go for a PB as I have some chalk for the first time deadlifting!) Not bothering typing in any previous sessions, log starts tomorrow.

Cheers mate, I'm on a roll at the moment so it makes up for it a little! My training used to be sub par anyway, getting some proper training advice first hand was the best thing I have done in terms of training so far - I just wasn't training hard enough before!

I was much the same myself - it was only when i looked into training further that i realised that the routine i was following was garbage and that i wasnt pushing myself anywhere near as much as i should.

Since then i have been making decent gains and enjoy training a lot more.

Having said that im not looking forward to training tonight as my hayfever is giving me all sorts of s**t.Angry

I get it from everything - ive had every prescription tablet, nose spray, eye drops that is on the market.

Ive even been reffered to an alergy clinic at the local hospital to see what they can do for me.

Not going to let it stop me training though - if i feel crap when i get to the gym ill just do low reps.

Yeah its not great but im stuck with it - just have to try and not let it take over your life or i wouldnt be able to enjoy the summer.

Anyyway, on a training note are you looking to do any comps in the future?

was planning on an u90kg strongman comp, but I'm not gonna be under 90kg for long...I'm gonna concentrate on PLing and get my weight up to 100kg+ before I start competing in strongman - I will still do the odd event training though because I enjoy it. (Am I mad?) I am joining the IAWA at some point, because they have all odd lift comps, one handed, grip, lifting off knees etc as well as conventional PLing. I fancy doing some oly training as well, Mark Haydock mentioned it to me, and after this program I will take up his offer. What abou you mate? Other than the mini viking comp?

Mini Viking will be my first ever comp so im going to use that as a starting point. I may come last but its all good experience being in a competition.

Planning on keeping under 90kg until after the comp then carry on putting weight on and getting stronger and see where i am when another comp comes up.

My long term plan is to bulk up and compete in the U105kg next year but depending on how training goes it maybe the year after.

I tend to gym train 3 times per week and the get down to olympic as often as i can to event train. Cant get enough of it at the moment.
