Not a fan of chilli even without cheese, and if you wish to eat said meal with lashings of cheese then far be for me to try to persuade you otherwise. As long as you don't advertise it as "chilli con carne" and then serve it with cheese I hold no objections. But as "con carne" simply means "with meat" there is no reason for your average cheese-hater to suspect that it would contain the vilest food known to man.
Did Mrs Macca do the same or was hers sans cheese ?

Mrs Macca had cheese, as did Mini Mac.

We also had cheesy garlic bread to go with it Happy

100 x 3
120 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
The knees are grumbling again, nothing too severe but grumbling none the less

Boots and sleeves stay on

Deadlift
70 x 5
70 x 5
100 x 3
120 x 3
140 x 3
160 x 2
180 x 1
200 x 1
220 x 1
240 x F
What an abortion ! The early sets did not trouble the knees, but whilst ambling around the bar adding extra weights the knees would from time to time ache severely and then stop. All deadlifts were put down horribly as lowering distressed the knees. The 220 was a bit arse up and backy and as I addressed the 240 the right knee collapsed, just for a second but that was enough, my knees worried me out of this, the 240 never came off the floor. The same weight that I tripled with great delight a fortnight ago and now - nothing. What a f**king shambles. Worst day's training for ten years if not more, an absolute abortion of a night. I apologize to all for being a bad-tempered, grumpy old t**t and away into a cold, dark, wet night. It's raining on the car park but worse than that, it's raining in my heart. and that gentle reader is never a good thing.

It's amazing how missing a lift / having a bad session can affect my mood, I feel like s**t, generally for a day or so, or until I have another session. Of course the opposite is true as well, and on the good days I feel fantastic, nothing can upset me. Onwards Pete, just try and put it behind you and get back at it next session Happy

I would not be too downhearted - you've not actually gotten 3 reps weaker you aggravated a knee injury prior to attempting it.

You took the sensible option and bailed.
Better you can go again next week and not be 240kg for the good but limping around with an agonsing knee for weeks.

I don't know if it was just the cold and wet, or something more, but very unexpectedly my knees were appalling tonight - I barely managed a weighted rep with anything. Even sitting down hurt, which wasn't the case at work or home later. Mack was in a good deal of pain too, similarly.

On Friday with lovely new floors and hopefully less penetrating damp chill all will look better.

Thank you for the kind words Gentlemen.

It was I believe around the start of the year when the second squat session of the week was introduced and I believe that the aching of the knees started shortly after. The initial theory was that the extra work was causing the ache and that once accustomed to the extra work it would cease.

It hasn't.

In fact it has grown steadily worse and with one or two periods of respite it reached what was in my opinion a climax last night.

I have physio on Wednesday so I will have the knees checked for anything fundamental but assuming the all clear is given, and I strongly suspect it will be then we will revert to squat Monday only and deadlift Friday only. Schoolgirl weights at first and then onwards and upwards. If this stops the aching, and I believe it will, then it becomes an open and shut case.

I know what you mean squatting and aching more. I can say my comp numbers rose 25 pounds more on the squat because of extra work I think. I am broken from training 9 months hard training. I am sick with a cold and feeble this week with. the flu. Sleeping in bed mostly the last 5 days has been beautiful. All the knots in back and legs are loosening. Civilians who don’t lift have it made

I know what you mean Billy but do they really ? I couldn't live with thin wrists and a slack watch. I envy them the fact that they don't care, that is of course if they really don't care, I suspect that they do, just a little bit, even if they don't admit it

Kudos to Handsome Jeff, who armed with an assortment of tools helped a man, rip up the old flooring at the gym. It was a Herculean task and he is probably still asleep from his efforts.

I am told that the concrete is eight inches down so the floor is that much lower and the new one is about two inches so we will be six inches lower than we were.

Today I have to drag my aching knees up there and do my stint. I won't have it anything like as hard as Jeff did but I would rather be on the couch re=reading game of thrones.

Bollox all conventional training today then, and Physio tonight were information will be received, opinions sought and decisions made. In the snakes and ladders of life I have just slid down a particularly large snake.

Tonight the dice gets rolled and we set off once more

Wednesday, 29th November

No training today, I took the day off and spent the day digging, scraping and carting old, cold, awkward, slippy and extremely dirty stuff. I was nine hours at it, I ripped my shirt, finished up extremely dirty and had to wash in cold water as the gym has no hot. Although I spent the day in the company of splendid fellows I had no fun whatsoever.

On the way home I swung by Mr. Cosgroves for my monthly physio. At my request I had my knees examined within an inch of their lives, there was pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, bending and straightening aplenty, and pretty much all the combinations of any two or three of those, of which there are many. The conclusion was that aside from inflammation of the tendons they were both fine.

I explained about the extra squat and deadlift session each week and informed him that I thought it was the cause of my woes.

He agreed

I told him that I believed that if I dispensed with that extra session and replaced it with back work on machines, it would clear the matter up once and for all.

He agreed

So it will be done, the "heavy" sessions will be quite light to start with to assist the healing process. The matter will be re-assessed at the end of January by which time, this should all be a memory

Another day off today, most of which will be spent on the couch, still no feedback as to whether the gym floor is actually finished or not.

Today's training will not involve squats nor will it involve deadlifts. It will involve t-bar rows, shrugs and conventional pulldowns.

Very cold tonight and everything was cold to the touch and as it is a while since I did anything of this nature there were no heroics.
Had a long and serious talk with Big Phil about training frequency and recovery. He's a good man to know is Phil, about five years my junior, but he is heavier than me and in his pomp was a veritable Hercules. An eight hundred pound squatter when equipment was in its infancy. He has vast wisdom straight out of the "been there and done that" school, which is of course the best school of all.
An easy day of not gambling tomorrow and reffing Sunday.
Bloody cold though. A little warmer would go down a treat

Bench, very raw
20 x 15
20 x 15
20 x 15
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
all paused now
90 x 2
90 x 2
90 x 2
90 x 2
90 x 2
90 x 2
90 x 2

Very cold today and the right knee grumbled throughout though it didn't at all up to getting there, stuck in a shedload of Bolton Wanderers traffic but once past a certain point it all just disappeared. Chippy tea, fish and pudding tonight and it never touched the sides. I'll doze on the couch until Match of the day and then that will be that. f**king knees is a nuisance. I shall doze while muttering under my breath
