My opener was ‘Regal.’ Never used it before, so a complete and utter fluke. When I don’t have someone giving me the opening word, I have tried not to repeat any openers that I have used previously to add to the challenge. | ||

My apologies. I am always interested. I use THEIR and have a backup second word of NOMAD, both contain three different commonly used consonants and two different vowels. Handsome Jeff, who is a wordle god in my eyes, varies his start word and doesn't appear to have a backup second option. I frequently decide to change my ways but almost always bottle out when the time comes. Handsome Jeff did once have the unfortunate experience of the answer being one of his regular start words but on that day he had decided to choose another. How annoying would that be ? He took it in his stride but I would be ranting yet ! | ||

Former, erstwhile and quondam all have the same meaning. Former is very common, erstwhile not so common and quondam really rather rare. Use of the most common is boring and no-one wants to be that. But use of a word that almost no-one knows could be considered impolite. Where do the lines get drawn ? Personally I would say that any word known to the dictionary is acceptable and no-one (other than me) should be held responsible for the gaps in my education or knowledge. I suspect I could be in a small minority though :-( | ||

Had 3 green (0 yellows) by the 3rd line and 4 greens by the 4th but used my final 2 attempts guessing the final letter wrongly. I rarely get long streaks as I forget to play regularly but this is the first time I've ever not gotten the word. It's an odd feelng! | ||
